I think this thread might have to go into the Pool room. That set up might be a once in a life time event for the west of the bay. Normally we can get some big north west cloud bands, inland tropical fed lows, Polar pulses but an Occluded front that turns into a bass strait cut off low, then moves and stalls in the bay, merges into an epic convergence zone which is then locked by a new 2nd cold core cut off low in eastern Bass strait…. a little rare
@Gordon, Yes…. It certainly was underestimated on the models for this side of the bay until very late. For me it was all about the position of the low and once it locked in around King Island with the NE steering, she became the perfect storm for the west side of the bay. Farmers will be happy. A manual gauge just north of Ballan got 148mm.
@Stevco and HB, nice pics
@dagget – Nice total !!
@snowfall – It’s certainly upgraded for Gisborne later in the night
@SB and Hawker – A nice southerly fed 46mm for 57mm drop on the north of the divide. Hen’s teeth comes to mind
@Skywalker – It’s no longer the weather boredom zone
All done here. Dams and water tanks full, dog has started to grow her winter coat. Event total 86mm , Year to date 165mm. Took 100 days to get 79mm and 48 hours to more than double it.... welcome to Australia
