I refuse to turn the heating on in March as a matter of principle, but it's going to be touch and go for the next couple of nights! :o

Geoff, this time of year the fires a handy method for fuel reduction :) The average max up here for the last week of March is about 17C so no surprise the fire comes on. Chilly here overnight with a min of 7C.

Good to see the showers spread around a bit overnight as the winds went more southerly. MTD here finishes in the low 80s so respectable, at about 15mm below the long term average. Was hoping to sneak past the average but not to be :x

Looks like a very boring stable week coming up. Expecting a lot of smoke here in Tassie next week as weather conditions have precluded fuel reduction burning for more than 12 months now.

I don't think we will get to the forecast 27 next week. I reckon 24 or 25 will probably be the highest and the mornings may well be coolish, preventing the temps going up higher.

Although the weather has got a mind of its own at the moment so who knows...

Love when the winds go more southerly cause then I get some share of your showers :) 6mm overnight compared to 0mm that would normally be seen in a SW.
Go the bombersss!

4mm for the thread, 26mm for the March, 78mm for the year (Average is 125mm for first 3 months)

The damage that TC Debbie has done is going to be up there. Major infrastructure washed away over night with that 400mm+ water bomb near the Gold Coast. This could be the most costly weather event in Australian history. Adjusted on inflation, here is the top 2 most costly weather events in Australian History on today’s money.

Sydney hail storm 1999 – 4.29 billion
TC Tracey 1974 – 4.09 billion

Unbelievably cold here this morning (well, by comparison with recent weather) - just 3C and a frost in the valley. Burning firewood like a pyromaniac!

Another mm of rain so 45mm for the month; 142.5mm ytd. Tracking very close to average on both counts.

The cold finish means we'll end up about 2C ahead of average for minimums, and about 3C for maximums. So a warm March but no record breaker for us.

11.8C in FC today so another cool one.

Watch for a sneaky front tomorrow. Could well see a few mm's in favoured spots in the south.

Then comes the big boring high

Am glad I chose April last year to go to Airlie Beach rather than this one.... Damages from this event will be in the billions.

No more showers here today, so event finished on 17mm taking our March total to 69mm, an awful lot better than I thought it was going to be half way through the month.
YTD = 240mm.

We finished up with 4.4mm for this event, and a monthly total of 43.9mm. That is slightly above average, which is quite amazing given how grim the rainfall outlook was looking earlier in the month. Haven't calculated the average maximum temp for the month but it was certainly much warmer than usual.

Just checked - 111.3 mm so far here this year. January was especially dry with only 18.7 mm.

March 2017 ended up just fractionally warmer than March 2016 (previous record for airport site since 1991).

Rainfall was above average in Northern half of Bendigo, below average in Kangaroo Flat.

In 2016 the mostly dry and warm weather continued until the end of April. Then it rained a lot, and kept raining. Probably not so much this year with a looming el-Nino.

My gut feel is that the warm South Tasman Sea is having an influence.

Drizzle and fog here early, then a cool cloudy arvo. April rainfall off the mark.

No weather showing up now for a few days. Looks like a decent front in about a week, with a possible cutoff.

Same here. Apparently the hottest March around Melbourne since 1940 (that month was gobsmacking). Vic gone one better just pipping last years number.
