Looking closer, I think Hayman might be just outside the eye, but must be fierce weather there now.

Wow. And Bowen Airport is now recording gusts over 100 km/h.

she is moving so slowly (6km/h) - Yasi came in like a freight train.
The damage from wind alone will be extraordinary due to her slow movement and we are about to see storm serge occur twice in the 12 hours, because of her speed.

It's very close to a Category 5. Reports of 270 km/h winds, so right in the upper range of a category 4.

So the 400km/h + recorded during cyclone Olivia in 1996 on Barrow Island doesn't count?

Offshore , so it doesn't. Would have been nice and windy though

I think the BoM wind ob is stuffed on Hamilton Island - Showing WSW wind.....looking at the radar and other obs it that should be the opposite direction. The BoM should of installed a Davis

Yep. Temp sensor is off now. Wind vane probably dead as well.

Baro at Airlie beach is now 958 hPa ....oh boy....you can see the north easterly that is coming in the wrap around for Airlie beach on the radar....if you are outside in the eye now in Airlie beach.... time to maybe stroll inside again
Whitsundays is about to be flattened from the opposite side.
