That storm is back building to the south. Tower over the back of the Dandenong's and in an arc around the north. i.e. the Melbourne bowel.

They are almost stationary too with hardly any steering.

Current BoM warning map is pretty spot on when you look at the southerly influence around Melbourne. Freezing level is around 3,500m and these babies are starting to go up to 9 to 10km NW of Melbourne. Good portion of the cloud will have chunks of ice if you are under one.

Gisborne in the firing line by the looks of it. Nothing down here of course.
Only water we are likely to see is the stuff already in the ocean.

In case we think we dreamt it, here's the 5.40 am Central District forecast (my bold):

Forecast for the rest of Friday
Mostly sunny. The chance of fog early this morning. Slight (20%) chance of a shower in the east this afternoon. Near zero chance of rain elsewhere. The chance of a thunderstorm in the east this afternoon.

(Having posted that, it appears so far that, along with the last two events, the chances of us actually getting rain right here are in fact zero :))

:D nice one Gordon - BoM are having a shocker at the moment. That trough was still there this morning, 30+ degrees and the rest is history. GFS beat them on the temps as well.

Lots of rumbles here....I might get the edge of it.

Kinda in hibernation mode waiting for this stubborn upper high to bugger off :o

Weathers basically dominated ATM by a heat low which gives way to a heat high aloft. Convection struggles to push up and is pulsey and tending ot track north.

Some signs in the latest GFS and EC that moisture might sneak down over us on Monday now with some showers, more likely in the north. This then comes again later in the week. Thinking the only think certain is more heat, with rain hit and miss.

City today felt like Brisbane on a hot day. Low 30s with a DP of 20C. Would be nice if we had proper beaches :P

Bracing for a stinker. Already 22C here. Humid, but not as humid as yesterday. Thinking tonight will be particularly unpleasant.

Inversion today will cap showers and storms. Maybe something on the ranges :?:

Good infeed of moisture tomorrow but no real trigger with the weak trough. Progs toying with the odd thundery shower tomorrow, with a weak rainband on Monday mainly over northern parts.

nearly 34c, 35% humidity here. Looks like some cumulus bubbling on the 12.20pm sat pic near Geelong and south west of Melbourne.

Lots of cumulus around here also, not getting much height (likely the cap as been mentioned). Hot 37c here!

Got the odd dark cloud here doing nothing but threaten to join its mates for the night in a heat trap.
