VIC - Two troughs: September 24 to 26 2016

Post by hillybilly »

A place holder for the inbetween system coming through today and Monday. Progs been pretty keen on 5 to 10mm or so with each, more in the south and on the ranges and less in the north.

Mild today with the uppers jumping to near 10C at 850 hPa.

Will keep the rain total for September ticking over.

Hi Hb was just looking at the Adelaide radar, good timing from
today's front, might surprise on the upside.

Hi guys, tend to agree on maybe the upside near 10mm in the south. The latest satellite pic is showing a little more feed from the north than was originally thought. It will definitely keep the gauges ticking overnight across Vic.

Is the rain just crossing the border dying out, or is it just entering the dreaded "radar hole"???

Always hard to know Geoff, Mildura's radar is showing light rain and it
never usually shows too much, so probably still raining up there.
The rain band is still producing in SA

Looking at the sky here, today's change looks like it should
be like, a summer slow moving trough, with a line or two of storms.
But not much is showing up on the radar.

Few drops while out walking a short time ago, but should become a little steadier over coming hour or so. Might see up to 10mm just depends how organised it can get. Some gusty winds though occurring this afternoon and still currently.

Got my eye on the disturbance moving through on Monday afternoon though, quite a bit more instability associated with it, so might get our first taste of some isolated thunderstorms around then, nothing spectacular though. :)

Handy 8mm overnight. Puts us almost on our monthly average - think we are about 10mm shy (but haven't done the sums).

Part B inbound for tomorrow. Will be quite unstable tomorrow so could well get a rumble. GFS has LI dipping locally to -3.
Is the rain just crossing the border dying out, or is it just entering the dreaded "radar hole"???
Radar hole ;) Will be good when the new Horsham radar is up and running :D

5mm into the gauges here to 9am this morning.
Have received a couple of showers so far this afternoon, looks like a couple more to come, nothing significant.

Tomorrow is definitely an "interest" day for isolated thunderstorm activity with a frontal system passing by. Not likely to be anything significant or severe, but there is quite a bit of instability (between -1 to -3) associated with the front. Couple that with a weak to modest upper profile and a few might get going. Initial risk area will be in the southwest in the afternoon before extending towards central parts in the latter afternoon. If any do develop, they will clear quickly once it gets darker. If I was a betting man I'd tip there will be some storms, just isolated!

Got a brief shower this morning on the leading edge of the strong warm air advection.

Today looks interesting. Fairly unstable conditions developing ahead of the approaching front. Should be worth a few mm's - thinking perhaps 10mm in FC.

Timing isn't ideal in central areas with the front tonight (better for the west).

Had a heavy show over in Sth Kensington at around 2.30. Otherwise a mostly dry day where I was. There's a few showers approaching Melbourne from the northwest, will be showery tonight with maybe a storm.

Getting some solid rain here now. Some lightning showing up in the mix out west, one storm just passed Bendigo and more behind that.

Bucketing down here at the moment, should be building quickly as it's big drops and quite 'thick'
