Yep... looking hot then a fairly dramatic front. Bit of wind with the front too... so not a good day to stand under those gums.

Change looks reasonably promising for rain with EC and GFS both showing 5-10mm pretty widespread (e.g., has about 12mm up here in Ferny Creek). It does look like a decent change in airmass, with 850T dropping from 20C+ on Saturday to about 5C by Sunday. Going to be a pretty unpleasant day on Saturday - certainly keep an eye on the forecasts as expect fire weather warnings given the progs.

Got excited for a storm after hearing/ feeling a rumble, but I'm starting to think it was an earthquake because the radar is clear above me?

I heard a few rumbles this afternoon up here in the hills but there was nothing on the radar. It was strange

Facebook seems to be saying the rumbles and sounds mentioned over s larger area may have been airshow at Avalon.

That migt make some sense. Sat on the couch hearing low rumblers wondering if the ground was about to shake.

Back to the weather, a hot one, but cloud and a bit of humidity capping things - uppers are hot for the time of year (close to 20C). Decent front late arvo with a band of rain/showers. EC been a pretty consistent 10mm (give or take here). Nice way to start the March total.

Very different weather for next week with autumn starting with SW'ly flow slowly established throughout. Could get cold and, but models are bit jumpy.

Well the current BOM forecast says the rain not getting here until late in the day, so I have to presume all the pretty colours on the radar just approaching Melbourne are mostly virga. Only up to 1mm recorded to the west so far so nothing much in it it seems.

On the way to the Avalon Airshow. It had been raining the whole way from leaving Melbourne. Rather steady rain also. Judging by radar, looks by the time we reach Avalon, it will have cleared that area (well I'm hoping it would have).

One of those days we often get at this time of year where there is a fair bit of pre-frontal mid level cloud and some showers around despite high 850hpa temps. I can imagine some of this cloud will 'burn off' during the day but it certainly should limit how hot it will get today, especially on the ranges. Models have been steadily downgrading the heat over the past few days. Looks like it might not even crack 30C here today.

BTW yet to see the 25-35 km/hr winds, it's fairly light atm.

Violent wind gusts and heavy rain here, surprised there's no STW?
