Yeah Nah, otherwise know as EC reckons it won't get above 0c at Mt Hotham all next week:

Could almost see a metre of snow falling in the alps IMO.

Jake, it does look windy but do you really think it will push a few records? It doesn't look like anything extraordinary at this stage, at least not in the warnings or forecast. I can remember seeing wind warnings of sustained winds up to 75kph and gusts up to 130-140kph - this event doesn't look quite in that category. You may be right but I just can't see this being a record breaker.

I retracted what I said ILS ... what i was meant to say is, it is looking like one of the windiest periods. My apologies.

Wind is picking up already here. If we don't get some of the white stuff early next week we could well get some later in the week if AccessG is to be believed.

Yes I noticed the winds were starting to freshen late this afternoon, and it's going to be wild, windy day tomorrow! And I'm anxiously monitoring the unfolding situation, just hoping that this is the one that FINALLY brings snow to the Dandenong Ranges! :)

My wife's in Ballarat atm and she reports trees down and road closures, plus some roof damage.

Dangerously windy here 25 km south-east & 200 m higher, but so far no damage (fingers crossed!)

Just watched a large sign fail here in Williams Landing after a strong 10 minute burst. The sign is 12x4m so not a small one!! Just slowed down now.

Noticed this vapour trail from the Sydney to Perth flight overhead at 31000feet at about 1pm, still there after 20 minutes, a good sign of moisture aloft ...

Kelvin-Helmholtz waves, caused by instability in the upper levels.
So we've got good moisture and instability up high, and severe gales down to the surface with an active front rushing in from the west, somethings got to happen.

It's very sporadic, one minute it's almost calm and glorious in the sunshine, then it comes in like a 747 with a deafening roar and bends the trees right over, then calm again. Rain only just crossing the SA border now at 3pm so possibly another 10 hours or so of this. :(
