Crazy temperature variation today. Melb CBD has gone from 14 to 11 to 14 again in the space of an hour. Geelong now shivering at 8.7c.

In a word - volatile.

Just had a massive gale force gust push through here at work, must be close to 100km/h. I'll watch the observations for the official reading. :windsail: :windsail: :sccary:

edit: 80km/h at 10:52am, so not far off it.

I'm sorry, but that warning is just embarrasing, it's half an hour late and the storms are well clear of the Melbourne area, what is the point? Anyone who doesn't follow the weather like us thinks there are big storms coming, and they've already gone! (Rant over).

Yeah that warning chart made it look like Cranbourne was aboout to get smashed, but there was no thunder or hail here. In fact we only had 0.4mm's of rain, winds were squally though and gusted up to 30 knots (56kmh) on my PWS. Temp now down to 10.3c.
Doesnt look that great on radar ATM. We might only get 2 or 3mm's from this I think.

Bang!! Another massive gale force squally shower pushing through here. The wind is unbelievable, surprised there hasn't been any damage in the street.

Yeah agreed, those warnings from the BoM were a tad late!

Sheets of rain and gusty winds going through the CBD at the moment, rain flying horizontally and everyone out walking rushing for cover!

Well it must have been some wind as there are trees down all over the Manningham area, and power out in several spots too. Might be out late this evening :)

The WS reported a gust of 45km/h which (for it's sheltered location) is the highest I've seen since I installed it in December. Sunny in the CBD now and looks calmer if the flag on the RBA building is anything to go by.

Yes definitely seems to be calming down out there now, phew that was a bit boisterous at times! A few more episodes like that to come in the next week or more methinks.

The front is well and truly through here now. Seems to have calmed down a bit after a few hours of gusty winds, enough to make the west facing window shake and whistle. Max gust of 70km/h at the airport & 6mm in the gauge at home.

Sky looking very different to this morning, not a single cloud to be seen!

What a crazy crazy day! Unbelievably windy, power flickered a few times here in Brighton! Noticed that there's been around 800 SES calls. And if you thought today was windy wait until this upcoming week, particularly this weekend!

A question for everyone ... should we continue this topic for the upcoming week or start a new one? If you'd like it continued I'll edit the title tonight. :)

P.S I'll try and update the awf forecasts tonight as well to reflect the forecasts teams thoughts :)

May as well just continue this thread and adjust the dates accordingly Jake, the title is still relevant. The big system at the end of the week may need its own thread though.

what is the go with the weekend.. was hoping to take kids to Donna Buang for some snow either sat or sunday,
I'd actually prefer about 23.5C with some sunshine for a walk instead.

Winter 2013 CBD rainfall total is currently running at #11 out of 158 years of records with around 208mm so far. I think by the end of month, this will be in the top 3 wettest winters :o

The wind is very gusty up here now, must be blowing hard in the exposed spots. Doesn't look likely
that we will get much rain up here tonight. Chris
