Wow you need to get hit head on by these to get anything. I watched the cells split around me here at work and then form up again just east of Bendigo into a monster. Just some drizzle here and thats all. The sky is, "filthy" at the moment. So much dust in the air brought over from SA, add that in with the high moisture content, and the sky litterally looks like a muddy dam at the moment.
Some sus looking Dopplar returns coming across now as well...
I live in a world where I dont see to believe, but I believe to see...
"Hail!
A buttload of hail!
And not just a normal butt!
Thor's butt!"
She lives in Seymore. And works in Pukupunyal. Unsure where she posted this from though. Either way, that red core with the interesting dopplar return dropped a Gods amount of hail.

Certainly has intensified from when I last posted, believe it or it, it is actually warmer and sunny on this side of the front that the other, perhaps that's why the BOM were expecting severe storms, heating+sun on other side makes for very nice formation, I'm sure it will cool once the real wind change happens though, strange day, wild winds, crazy storms, wasn't much here - but when it comes to severe hail, that's not really a bad thing.
Full on torrential downpour here over the last hour, ive been up on the roof clearing box gutters ( despite whatever they tell you, say NO to box gutters ) my tanks were overflowing massively, it is so sad seeing all that crystal clear water running out of the overflow pipe into the garden, spose it doent matter if you have full capacity.
sunny and clear now and it looks like that hideous wind is abating
Home- "Shepherd's Bush" at Mt Macedon. 870m
Work- "Bolobek" at Macedon. 430m
The red on radar that oved through here was moving too fast to dump much rain. The jet black sky to the east does look good tho, should be some nice flangs against that backgrouond.
Just under 9mm here overnight and today and that damn gusty nth wind just hasn't let up all day and a lot of dust here now, actually filling the sky with it.
Well that escalated quickly... then disappeared just as fast. 3mm at home.
Wind gusts got up to 32km/h here on the WS, although it usually under-reports if the wind is NW-NE as there's a dirty big tree in front of the anemometer One day I'll work out how to extend the sensor line so I can put it in a better spot.
Enough wind for a few trees down and some tiles blown off a roof in Donvale, but thats about it.
Had some heavy showers and a fair bit of thunder and lightning this afternoon.
After 4.6mm's overnight we had a further 8.4mm's this afternoon.
That makes a total of 13mm's so not too bad. MTD is now 28mm's and YTD 105mm's.
wind has died down a lot now after gusting to 61kmh on my weather station at 12.31pm
Was at work today. Torrential, tropical rain for more than 30 mins this arvo. Im my BOM rain gauge, 8.4 mm overnite to 9am, and 21.5mm this arvo with the storm band. (I am now the official BOM rain recorder for Broadford.)
Max gust today 60klm/hr at 1150, max rain rate 164.6mm/hr at 4pm!!

25mm here, thrilled with that. It's about two to three times more than models were suggesting and lifts the soil moisture back to healthy levels well in advance of winter. Already some significant greenery emerging in some paddocks and most parks and lawns.
There was already 5.7mm in the gauge by 6:30am which was more than some models were progging for the entire system here. Strong winds currently and throughout the day by the looks of things with bark and branches strewn all over the place. In a way it reminds me more of a May/June type system but with milder temps. The max here was recorded at midnight with around 18.5C.
50-100mm widespread across the NE ranges. If this sort of pattern continues through winter we could easily be looking at a bad year for flooding. That's all pure speculation though of course.
short intense 10 minutes , hail the size of five cent pieces and about 5 ml rain almost lost power, thankfully we didn't or I wouldn't be typing this lol
Yes I was a bit bemused as well. Was looking at all the webcams around the bay and could see it was strangely misty and murky, and had heard reports of blowing dust around the region. Wind change from the west must be blowing the smoke across behind the last rain/storm band. Amazing to have had 3 thunderstorms today and only recorded about 6mm of rain, never got directly under one I suppose. Wind has thankfully died down in the last couple of hours, but still a few big gusts occuring. I think I'll save the big clear up for this weekend.
