Spam Emails

Post by Geoff » Sat Sep 22, 2012 7:26 pm

I've started this thread just to see who else is getting inundated with the dreaded spam emails lately. I think many of us have been getting the old Viagra, Cialis?, Levitera? Canadian Pharmacy rubbish for some time now, but just in the last few days I've started getting umpteen emails claiming I've bought LG 42inch flatscreen tv's??? I know how to find out where the emails come from by right clicking and going into "properties" etc. and they nearly always come from Russia or China or even Brazil. The golden rule is NEVER open an attachment if there is one.

Actually, mine are really light on now. I still get a fair bit of unsolicited emails from companies that I have dealt with (they're good at signing you up for newsletters and unless you read the fine print when dealing with them, you tend to miss the opt out), but other than that it's been quiet lately. Could have something to do with using a Mac too ;) Things have been quiet on the spam front since I changed over, but don't tell my husband that as I resisted the change for aaaages lol!

Only recall once having had any in the last couple of years. My primary email provider is Yahoo where I use its 'disposable email address' function to the full by allocating a unique address to sources such as newsletters that Lily referred to and a more general one to once off sources that require that you provide a address, it is easily deleted and a new one created if I was to get spam. I do not use the Yahoo address that is the primary address for the account.
