As you'll be starting to realise, I love my sport!!
I first starting playing Basketball when I was 5 years old and only stopped when my ankles couldn't take the rigors of 3 games a week plus training.
Basketball is an interesting sport in this country. Junior participation rates are always strong, yet we can't transfer this into a rock solid national league. Teams come and go, money is not good because of the lack of interest from sponsors and spectators. Gone are the days when Rod Laver arena was packed to the rafters when the Tigers played the Magic in the mid 90's. I think the impact of Michael Jordan was huge to this country, and his departure was a reason why interest dropped off.
Anyway, discuss all things Basketball in this thread. The NBL season has just finished with the Perth Wildcats becoming the most successful franchise in NBL history. The NBA is ramping up towards playoffs, with the Lakers and Cavs leading their Conferences. Special mention to our own Andrew Bogut, who was voted player of the week for the Eastern Conference. It is a massive achievement from a bloke who didn't play competitive hoops until his mid-teens.
Also, March signifies the US College Basketball tournament. NCAA "March Madness" is a favorite of mine. Great to see which youngsters will step up and increase their chance to be picked in the NBA Draft.
