Note: This Flood Watch is a heads-up for possible future flooding and is NOT a
Flood Warning (see note below)

Flood Watch for the Goulburn and Broken Basins
Issued at 11:40 am EDT on Tuesday 11 January 2011
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

A broad slow moving trough will be centred over western Victoria today while a
ridge of high pressure lies south of Tasmania. The two systems are producing a
humid and unstable easterly flow across the state. The trough will strengthen
on Wednesday and develop into a low pressure system over South Australia on
Thursday as a high pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea. The low pressure
system and accompanying low pressure trough will move across the State on
Friday.

Widespread rainfall totals of 50 to 75mm have been forecast for the Goulburn
Broken catchments in a 24 hour period starting Tuesday afternoon with higher
isolated falls possible as a result of thunderstorm activity.

Rainfall totals of up to 38mm have been recorded in the Goulburn and Broken
catchments in the last 24 hours which has resulted in some stream rises.
Rainfall to date combined with forecast rainfall may lead to areas of minor to
moderate flooding developing late Tuesday into Wednesday. Further significant
rainfall is forecast for the period Thursday into Friday which may lead to
further flooding developing in the Goulburn and Broken catchments.

Flood Watch For Greater Melbourne Catchments (Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra,
Dandenong And Bunyip)
Issued at 11:13 am EDT on Wednesday 12 January 2011
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

A broad slow moving trough is centred over western Victoria while a ridge of
high pressure lies south of Tasmania. The two systems are producing a humid and
unstable northeasterly flow across the state. The trough will strengthen on
Wednesday and develop into a low pressure system over South Australia on
Thursday as a high pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea. The low pressure
system and accompanying low pressure trough will move across the State on
Friday with a weak high pressure ridge to follow on Saturday.

Since 9 AM Tuesday catchment wide rainfall totals of up to 50 mm have been
recorded across the western part of the Greater Melbourne catchments. This has
lead to stream rises across this part of the catchment.

For the remainder of Wednesday, rainfall totals of up to 15 mm are expected,
with catchment wide rainfall totals of up to 50 mm being forecast for Thursday
into Friday. Higher totals associated with thunderstorms are a possibility.

The forecast rainfall combined with the current catchment conditions is
expected to cause further stream rises in the western catchments with the
possibility of flooding developing during Wednesday. If the rainfall is in the
upper range of the forecast, or exceeds the forecast, there is the potential
for more extensive flooding to develop.

The Bureau of Meteorology in conjunction with Melbourne Water are continuing to
monitor the situation and will issue catchment specific warnings if and when
required.

Note: This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and
streams must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to
move to higher ground should flooding develop. Flood Warnings will be issued if
Minor Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers
for which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service. For

Flood Watch for the Goulburn and Broken Basins
Issued at 11:25 am EDT on Wednesday 12 January 2011
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

A broad slow moving trough is centred over western Victoria while a ridge of
high pressure lies south of Tasmania. The two systems are producing a humid and
unstable northeasterly flow across the state. The trough will strengthen on
Wednesday and develop into a low pressure system over South Australia on
Thursday as a high pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea. The low pressure
system and accompanying low pressure trough will move across the State on

In the 24 hour period to 9 AM Wednesday, widespread rainfall totals of up to 25
mm have been recorded across the Goulburn Broken catchments, with isolated
totals of up to 40 mm being recorded. Forecast catchment wide rainfall of up to
50 mm during Thursday and into Friday may result in significant stream rises
across the Goulburn Broken catchments, with higher isolated falls possible as a
result of thunderstorm activity.

The Bureau is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue catchment
specific warnings if and when required.

Flood Watch for the Campaspe, Loddon, Avoca and Wimmera Basins
Issued at 11:17 am EDT on Wednesday 12 January 2011
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

A broad slow moving trough is centred over western Victoria while a ridge of
high pressure lies south of Tasmania. The two systems are producing a humid and
unstable northeasterly flow across the state. The trough will strengthen on
Wednesday and develop into a low pressure system over South Australia on
Thursday as a high pressure system moves into the Tasman Sea. The low pressure
system and accompanying low pressure trough will move across the State on
Friday with a weak high pressure ridge to follow on Saturday.

Since 9 AM Tuesday, widespread rainfall totals of up to 100 mm have been
recorded throughout the north west, with an isolated total of up 161 mm in the
Wimmera catchment.

During Wednesday, less than 5 mm of rainfall is expected, however widespread
rainfall totals of up to 100 mm have been forecasted for the North West for
Thursday.

The forecast rainfall combined with the current catchment conditions in
response to overnight rainfall has lead to regions of minor and moderate
flooding in the Wimmera, Avoca and Loddon basins. There are catchment specific
warnings for these basins. This flood watch extends across to the Campaspe
catchment.

The Bureau is monitoring the situation and will issue catchment specific
warnings if and when required.

For a

Flood Watch for the Barwon, Moorabool, Leigh and Hovells Creek Catchments and
Otway Ranges
Issued at 11:39 am EDT on Wednesday 12 January 2011
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

A broad slow moving trough will be centred over western Victoria today while a
ridge of high pressure lies south of Tasmania. The two systems are producing a

recorded in the Barwon, Moorabool, Leigh and Hovells Creek Catchments and Otway
Ranges. Some stream rises are being observed in these catchments in response to
this rainfall.

For the remainder of Wednesday, rainfall totals of up to 15 mm are expected,
with catchment wide rainfall totals of up to 50 mm being forecast for Thursday

Flood Watch For Greater Melbourne Catchments (Werribee, Maribyrnong, Yarra,
Dandenong And Bunyip)
Issued at 11:17 am EDT on Thursday 13 January 2011
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

Since 9 AM Tuesday catchment wide rainfall totals of up to 100 mm have been
recorded across the western part of the Greater Melbourne catchments. This has
lead to stream rises across this part of the catchment.

For the remainder of Thursday and into Friday, rainfall totals of up to 50 mm
are expected. Higher rainfall totals resulting from local falls are also a
possibility.

For
detailed explanation see

In the interests of community safety the SES suggests following precautions:
* Don't walk, ride or drive through floodwater,
* Don't allow children to play in floodwater,
* Stay away from waterways and stormwater drains, and
* Keep well clear of fallen power lines

Flood Watch for the Barwon, Moorabool, Leigh and Hovells Creek Catchments and
Otway Ranges
Issued at 10:47 am EDT on Thursday 13 January 2011
by the Bureau of Meteorology, Victorian Regional Office

A low pressure system near western Bass Strait is moving to the southwest while
a high pressure system lies south of Tasmania. The two systems are producing a
humid and unstable northerly flow across the state. Another low pressure system
will develop over South Australia today as the high pressure system moves into
the Tasman Sea. The low pressure system will move south on Friday as the
accompanying low pressure trough moves across the State. A weak high pressure
ridge will move over Victoria on Saturday then a cold front will move through
Bass Strait on Sunday.

In the 24 hours to 9 AM Thursday catchment wide rainfall totals of 5 to 10 mm
have been recorded in the Barwon, Moorabool, Leigh and Hovells Creek Catchments
and Otway Ranges. Some stream rises are being observed in these catchments in
response to rainfall over the last several days.

For the remainder of Thursday, rainfall totals of 30 to 50 mm are expected.
Higher totals associated with thunderstorms are a possibility.

The forecast rainfall combined with the current catchment conditions is
expected to cause further stream rises in the Barwon, Moorabool, Leigh and
Hovells Creek Catchments and Otway Ranges with the possibility of flooding
developing during Thursday into Friday.

The Bureau of Meteorology is continuing to monitor the situation and will issue
catchment specific warnings if and when required.
