FLOOD WATCH FOR THE MURRUMBIDGEE VALLEY AND MURRAY RIVER DOWNSTREAM OF HUME DAM THIS WEEKEND
Issued at 12:03 PM on Thursday the 28th of October 2010

Note: This Flood Watch is a "heads up" for possible future flooding and is NOT a
Flood Warning [see note below].

An active cold front will reach the west of NSW late Friday, then cross the
state slowly over the weekend, bringing rain to most areas of NSW. Heaviest
falls are expected in the areas of south east NSW which are still wet from
recent rainfall.

There is a greater then 70% chance of minor to moderate flooding developing
during the weekend in the following:

1. Murrumbidgee River valley - including local flooding from expected
thunderstorm activity which is will be associated with this event

2. Murray River below Hume Dam

Flood Watches will also be issued from Thursday afternoon for the Murray River
above Hume Dam and other catchments in north east Victoria.

This Flood Watch means that people living or working along rivers and streams
must monitor the latest weather forecasts and warnings and be ready to move to
higher ground should flooding develop. Flood Warnings will be issued if Minor
Flood Level is expected to be exceeded at key sites along the main rivers for
which the Bureau of Meteorology provides a flood warning service. Across NSW,
about 70% of Flood Watches are followed by flooding.

Level 2.4 metres) and rising with the forecast rainfall the river level is
expected to approach the minor flood level Sunday afternoon.

The Kiewa River at Kiewa Main Channel is currently at 2.49 metres (Minor Flood
Level 3.3 metres) and rising slowly. Initial indications are with the forecast
rainfall the river level in the Kiewa river at Kiewa will approach the minor
flood level late Sunday.
