Alpine snow - May 4th-8th 2010

Post by firestorm »

Well the snow season is approaching and we may have a possiblity of a pre season fall heres what i see at this stage: For alpine areas.

Tuesday: Strong/Gale forces NW winds with high cloud developing during the day rain to follow overnight it Wendensday. Temps Max 6 Min 2

Wendesday: Gales will continue enitally from NW/ shifting cooler W/SW during the morning and hopefully this is when we can see some snow showers develop over the peaks then gradually lowering to around 1500m in the arvo/evening 5-10cm i see for wendesday Max 2 Min -2.

Thrusday: to me could be a great day for widspread snow as a period of snow could devlop during the morning with snow showers to follow through the evening
winds will remain in the strong to gales force from the SW back to the W/NW before the next system then shift back coolder SW with the next system Temps will warm slightly before the on set of the next frontal system but we should see the snow hold on and not tend to rain across most alpine area Snow level rising to 1700m then back to 1400m during the day Temps Max 1 Min -3 snow accumulation 10cm-15cm

Friday: SW winds slowly easing and snow showers easing also into the evening Southern locations to fair better. Snow to 1500m slowly raising trough the day toward 1700m Min -1 Max 1 Snow accumulation 2-5cm

Saturday: some left over light snow showers through the south!

So this could be a decent little event to get the snow lover pumped for the upcomming season. But dont expect it to last very long :(

Well lets see how this pans out i love the snow and forcasting it so hopefully through the year i can learn more and become more acurate :D cheers.

Looking like tomorrow there could be another 2-5cm about the southern resorts, in particular Baw Baw.

Next week it could dump down on the Alps. Latest US has a strong front wrapping into a low over the Tues/Wed period, with falls of 15-30cm likely.
