Radar looking more intensive than the rain actually falling over Melbourne presently though it is moderately heavy. Looks like bright banding occurring on the radar given the coldness of the atmosphere.

Looking like a very cold burst arriving late Monday with the coldest air arriving Tuesday and snow levels dipping to 500m for a time. With decent moisture involved, the alps could see the best powder since early June by Wednesday. Flooding in the NE could be an issue with 20-30 mm falls around the p...

Flood watch just issued for our area and many others. These sporadic falls will add up next few days. E and NE are so wet rivers could swell quickly. Moderate rain here Bayside presently. There was a bit of a shelf looking west earlier and it's been so dark today. Also observed mammatus over Melbou...

Nothing up here yet but very nice looking skies in all directions. This Mt Buller looking east around noon today....

Nice shots HB.Must be a dream having frequent snow events for you this winter down there. In Mansfield we have around 30mm since the 1st and ground is very wet. Gullies are flowing, dams overflowing. If we get what models are proging this week we'll be into flooding territory for several rivers near...

Band approaching looks ok if it doesn't break in half. No sign of a possible storm.

Nice storm outbreak currently in the NE would bode well for thunder snow. Falls and Hotham should report large snow accumulations by morning I'd suspect with reported rain totals 50-60mm range in that region so far today. Wouldn't be surprised if the Hotham - Harrietville road was closed for a time ...

Some models now predicting over a metre of snow from this system for some of the resorts, on top of what has fallen already :o . Media hype this week about the "best opening in 50 plus years". The 2000 season opened with a metre on the ground at many resorts. I guess if the snow goes low ...

Hi All Here in Wanniassa, Southern Canberra, I recorded 16mm overnight, taking the May total to 102mm, another well above average month, May usually is the driest month of the year here, Tuggeranong just down the road averages 26.6mm in May. Another 20mm or so expected on Monday. Backyard is waterl...

We've only got to 8.4 degC so far today. We could end up with today being our coldest May day since the infamous 7.5 degC on 27th May 2000... Have been thinking about the similarities between this event and the late May 2000. That system made up of multiple lows at very low pressure and dumped a fo...

Cold already biting today. Temp hasn't moved passed 9c and now dropping again. Looking like the wet and cold week will extend into next weekend with further fronts. Snow accumulations in the alps by this time next week could hit 30-50cm making for a good opening weekend although seems to be a slight...
