dropped down to 6.3 with that passing shower a half hour ago, popped back up to 8.2 now

Still daring to believe I'll have my last look at some snow tomorrow. Hoping to chase, cameras are at the ready :)

Re: Mars Curiosity

Thanks for posting Mick - not quite a space tragic, but love it nonetheless. Didn't get to watch it live. I agree - a huge achievement technically.

Perhaps we can use this thread to add photos and links etc for the ongoing mission... I'll move this into the Astronomy section :)

Re: Health question help!Historical data/memories of winter

Hey Lily and Hillybilly, great to see you both :) Lily, that's not good, I hope that you get some good treatment. I don't have any reference point, but my 2.5 yo son was diagnosed with asthma back in october last year, after a long winter of fairly obvious symptoms, but we just kept putting it down ...

Re: Return to Winter: July 26 - ???

Hi Penash, and a huge welcome from us all here. Sorry about your dog - they become such a big part of the family. Mine is a nutter (as Karl will attest) but thankfully just like to hide in a corner when it's stormy. You're just down the road from me as well :) Don't worry too much about obs, any con...

Re: Its Spring!

You are bonkers Mick! :P Haha quite bonkers ;p Although, gotta say, I said the same to my wife today - it felt really springlike today. Our magnolia is not far of blooming and there is a definite 'smell' in the air. Think it will fall back into wintry weather in the next 6 days or so.... maybe not ...

Re: Cold Fronts 18/7/12 - 22/7/12

Anyway, back on topic.... Remarkable how quickly it chilled tonight, down to 4.6c already, could well see a wee frost tonight as long as it stays clear. 3.8mm in the last 24hrs, my back yard is still completely waterlogged and my sookie dog keeps peeing on the path instead of the grass so she wont g...

Just had a brief hail shower here, less than pea sized. Lovely looking clouds to the south west of my place, will try and get a pic up if my busted knee lets me move

Re: Elevated risk of solar storm effects

Chance of aurora activity in the next few days is very high. An X-class CME has just uleashed from the sun and is hurtling our way faster than normal due to high speed solar winds ATM. Keep your eye's peeled tonight, especially before the waning moon rises just after 9.15pm. Keep up to date here at...

Re: Help with Digitek usb wireless weather station

Often the best way Cass. (welcome to the forum, btw) I know with many of the wireless weather stations if they go out of sync with the base station a hard reset is necessary to rest the communications. My last WS was just like that - it was a modest Lacrosse semi-wired system and if the sender unit'...

Re: Inland Frosts - July 5th-9th 2012

I think they have a few of those industrial diesel heaters sitting next to the station on the corner of La Trobe St trying to keep the edge off. Wouldn't want those 100-year-old thermometers freezing up now, would we?? ;) :P

Re: Inland Frosts - July 5th-9th 2012

I gotta say it's a heck of a lot colder tonight. i'm out and about getting some night sky shots and i seriously can't feel my toes now. Time for a whiskey methinks. 1.8c here, bounced up from 1.2 half an hour ago, but trending downwards again now. Ice on car already. Cracking night for milky way pho...

Re: Melbourne dams

I think there's little doubt the dams will fill again (actually think they are a lot fuller than they are reporting!!) but my worry is how will the dam walls cope with being full again? I've read about how dam wall often 'dry out' during extended low periods, and then struggle with the load when the...
