Liking the look of the 1:20pm Sat Pic for Melbourne's chances, shows a field of Cu developing to the WNW (although young). Full sun and very windy here 29c.
Different things going on in each direction - North is dark and stormy (bases of larger cumulus), high based popcorn cumulus in blue skies here and towards CBD, West has lots of high junk like cirrus, some blue on the horizon with cumulus. Hope that makes some sense. (Ascot Vale)
Yeah seems to be rising slightly. 26.2c CBD midnight. About the Jan mean max, its boiling. Front full of sparks but not too much rain (~5mm) by the looks of it.
Just had some unexpectedly heavy rain NW of the city! Tropical feel with large drops smashing down. Slow moving - still raining but the heavy core moving south. Probably 3+mm in this short time.
Yeah looks to be snowing to about 700m. Saw a video of what looks like proper snow at Lyonville (near Trentham/Daylesford). Thinking Dandenong's will do well with the more southerly fetch overnight/tomorrow and likely about cold enough.
Steel Creek in Essendon West rising rapidly, approaching 2.5m and going up at 20cm ever 6 mins. Could be getting close to some roads. Raining heavily here again with the band moving east. https://www.melbournewater.com.au/water ... er/230236A
18.5mm in Ascot Vale which is just great. As has been mentioned a great light show from that cell that raced from the NW into the Yarra Valley. Definitely some instability left with cells N of Melb.
Still thinking tonight looks good for metro area - obviously the low positioning is important and can change but ACCESS GFS and EC all going for around 30mm in the city. Pretty consistent.
Watching from Vietnam, typical for the big events to happen when I'm not home... Also surprised to see the rain pushing as far south given the main models kept it in the NE. Feeling that tomorrow night Melbourne metro should get at least 20-40mm. Crazy falls in the Ne. Enjoying reading all the analy...
Unreal day for convection and storms as has been mentioned, storm skirted to the W of me with constant rumbles and some CG. Convection in all directions and steering favourable. Good day
BoM going for 5 - 40mm Wednesday-Thursday CBD. As previously mentioned GFS quite excited for western half of the state. EC going for around 10mm in Melb. Expecting around 20mm here but could be easily more.
Convection going off in SW and W and E suburbs, clouded over in N suburbs now. Activity much closer to metro than yesterday which gives us a better chance.
