Re: Heavy rain and storms, with mountain snow: October 3-

Pouring rain in Bendigo this morning. Main rain-band seems to be positioned slightly West of where the forecast models predicted.

Re: Heavy rain and storms, with mountain snow: October 3-

3mm so far. Very humid subtropical feel outside.

BOM have also upped the 50% chance to 20mm. Looks promising.

Storms really starting to fire along the SA border.

Mildura in the firing line.

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Worth noting that Sept 2023 was the driest September on record in Australia since 1900. Next closest was Sept 1902.

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

One very nice looking cold front South of WA today. Lots of cold air behind this one.

The forecast seems to have firmed for 20-30mm here this week. Will be very welcome rain here and could be good finishing rains for some winter crops.

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Hmmmm, I'm not very optimistic for rain this week now. All looks to be happening in Eastern Vic. We might miss out altogether.

Potentially a record diurnal temperature range here today.

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

1987 takes the cake for hottest AFL Grand Final (30.7c)

Meanwhile, if 00z German forecast model is realized for next week, Melbourne and suburbs could be in real big trouble.

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Warm and dry today. November weather. In fact this will be our hottest ever September and the first one with a mean max over 20c. As for next week - Wow! 18z GFS is off-the-chain with over 100mm here, and 170mm around Gisborne/Melton. EC thinks it'll be more an Eastern Vic system. Going to be crazy ...

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Quite a bit of convergence in the forecast models for next week now. I reckon it's on. (Bass Strait looks wild)

30-50mm here seems likely, and a decent dump of snow too on the Alps... (After the season ended early)

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

Forecast models seem to be firming up on a significant rain event for much of the State next week.

Could be over 25mm here.

Re: Warming up to early season heat possibly followed by rain: Late September to early October

GFS and GEM forecast models certainly look optimistic for rain next week. EC reckons Eastern Vic might get a bit, but nothing in the West.

Something to generate interest.

Re: Early spring warmth/heat: September 12-?

2c this morning here. Lovely sunny afternoon for Equinox.

Looking ahead, Grand Final weekend might have some bonkers heat in NW Vic. But GFS has an absolute doozy of a cold front and Low following. Potentially a very volatile start to October. One to watch.

Re: Early spring warmth/heat: September 12-?

Mildura got to a nasty 36.5c today. 27.8c here. Yuck.

Could be a pre-equinox record for Mildura. They did get to 37.7c on Sept 23, 2017.

Looking forward to the cool change on Tuesday night.

Looks much milder on both EC and GFS than was forecast earlier. Still dry though.

Re: Becoming cold, wet and windy with a front followed by a deep low: September 4-7

Cool day here today. As for the coming week or so, that could get nasty heat wise. Possibly our first 20c+ day tomorrow since winter - about a month earlier than last Spring (which was very cold). GFS suggests a chance of 30c+ before the end of this month, and last year that didn't happen until a ve...

6mm overnight. Warmer and drier today than I thought it would be. Another fail.
