Re: Front followed by a low: August 10-15

Ended up with -3.9c. Coldest since August 2014.

Split systems can start to struggle in sub-zero temps. Same with the cheap heat-pump hot water systems the State Govt is paying for....

Re: Front followed by a low: August 10-15

A cold and overcast 12c max here today.

A bit of a wandering cold pool in the mix this Monday. GFS is still very keen about Aug 17-18th. Probably not much rain though. El-Nino-esque.

Re: Front followed by a low: August 10-15

4mm overnight. Freshens things up. The next week could deliver a reasonable amount of rain to keep things ticking over. I'm thinking 15mm here over the next week.

Nice to get colder weather tbh.

Re: Front followed by a low: August 10-15

A light frost here this morning.

Probably looking at about 10- 15mm here over the date range to keep thinks ticking over. Might be more from August 16th onwards going by the long range forecast models, plus some proper cold air in the mix. Winter might return with vengence.

Re: Becoming mild and windy, followed by a showery change: 3-8 August.

Interesting weather in WA today. 30c near Eucla on the Nullabor Coast this afternoon (not quite a record), but now 7c at Bunbury after 76mm of rain with the powerful cold front.

If there's one thing that's characterised winter in 2023, it's the persistent peaking of cold fronts with SW WA.

Re: Blustery change: July 27-

Maatsuyker Island had gusts of 200 km/h this afternoon. Record broken. Is Tasmania still there?

Certainly looks to be much cooler this weekend than last. And GFS is throwing up a seriously cold system around August 13th (a long way away)...

Re: Blustery change: July 27-

A bit chilly in parts of Antarctica atm:

August 4th seems to be the next decent chance of polar air over us.

GFS is also toying with a powerful cold front around August 3 - 4th, with possible follow-up fronts. Rather mild weather beforehand.

Re: Long mid winter mild spell under westerly flow: July 12-

Later this week shows signs of some upper cold pool activity over SE Australia with lowering freeze levels. Nothing to write home about though.

The last few days of July seem to be showing up some juicier stuff on GFS.

Another ripping frost this morning. Down to -2.5c.

Starting to get proper El-nino vibes now... At least our storages are full!

Looks like a string of subzero mornings in the coming week. A cold 11c here today after a 1c minimum, so a proper July day. Lake Eppalock is also overflowing.

Clear skies and no wind and we managed a chilly 0.8c start to the day. About time!

No rain in sight for us, but definitely looks colder this time next week.

Re: Long mid winter mild spell under westerly flow: July 12-

This warm weather is originating from the warm pool of water in the Mid-Indian Ocean.

Looks like colder nights early next week, and then cold fronts around July 20 - 22.
