Re: Victoria - Tropical rain event - February 2nd-8th 2010

Ex TC Yasi still seems to be going strong in Central Australia. The charts suggest it will weaken and move west. Is there any chance it will move further south?

Just looked at the National Radar Loop. It's almost as if Yasi is sparking off the whole continent. Very spectacular.

Re: Victoria: Troughy thundery humid rain event. Jan 9th-15t

Heavy rain has hit North East Tasmania overnight with minor flooding over roads. At 5.30 this morning Gray in the North East highlands near St Mary's had received 190mm since 9 am yesterday so it would be closer to 200 by now. The North West copped it as well with Wynyard recording 92 mm. A line of ...

Re: Victoria: Troughy thundery humid rain event. Jan 9th-15t

Our last big flood in Launceston was in 1929. It was due to the flooding of the South Esk, North Esk and Meander River basins with falls in excess of 250mm in these catchments. If the models are right we could be in for a repeat!!

Re: Victoria: Rain/storm event - 6th-10th December 2010 (Obs

Quite a few fast moving heavy showers in Northern Tasmania at the moment, a weak front is passing through. A more substantial one is due to cross tomorrow afternoon. In the last event where I live 15km north of Launceston we had about 45mm all up with only one storm which hit about 3pm Wednesday aft...

About 8mm over the last three days in the Central North of Tassie. Looked very promising but fizzled. The humidity has been unreal however, all cleared away last night to a blue sky day. Latest BOM forecast gives us rain and thunderstorms tomorrow with more rain returning next Tuesday.

Re: Victoria: Rain/Storm Event (Obs) November 22-28 2010

A rain band is moving through Tasmania with all but the North East Copping a drenching. Launceston is right on the edge of the band at the moment with only an occasional shower passing through. Some decent totals so far with places in the far North West well over 30mm since 3 pm yesterday.

Some small storms have just raised through the South East of Tasmania if you check out the Hobart Radar. 26 and muggy here in Launceston.
