Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 13 July

Thanks for starting this Jasmine! Definitely looking interesting, Crikey! I'll be travelling home to see family near the 12 apostles on either Friday night or early Saturday, so should be cold and wet and windy down there! I wonder how muddy the farm is? Looking a good event overall, especially for ...

Re: VIC - Unstable with showers and storms: July 7-8 2019

Agree, snowfall. Bit of a hard one to judge at the moment, but hopefully most of us can squeeze out a few mm's before next week. Melbourne should see some showers from the afternoon and north central parts or the ranges as HB says seems like doing the best according the latest modelling! :)

Hey Nick, looking forward to your input here! I've never visited Canberra but it's on the list before the end of the year. Not sure how you handle those minimums! :snowflake:

Re: Welcome to our Weatherzone friends

Hi all, just a quick update. We've had quite a bit of feedback re the structure of our main thread (Weather Events, Observations and Analysis) over the past few days. We've restructured this to reflect some of the user feedback and the poll that is ongoing above. Each "area" now has it's own thread ...

Agreed, Skywalker! Down to 1.3 degrees here this morning with a "feel-like" temp at -0.7. Getting out of bed was difficult, even the walk to the car! Can't imagine riding the old bike! :|

Re: Humid with showers and storms, followed by strong front: March 22-26

Pretty strong forcing and volatile atmosphere this evening, wouldn't be surprised to see some storms persist into the night, including over the Melbourne area. They'll pack a punch in-terms of wind too. Already development across several parts of the state. Might be an interesting night.

Re: Return of heat: Feb 24 to March 5

Blimey it's warm out there! Bit of convection bubbling away, some thundery showers to the west of Melbourne and over the eastern ranges. Will have to check how high we got to today a bit later. Maybe a thundery shower to come.

Little burst just to the NW of the city, hopefully that can make it here. Convergence zone pretty much over us currently.

Looking towards bay from our place, just black!

EDIT: Good view of some lightning now, and hear thunder. Scuddy stuff swirling around.

Re: VIC: First week of Feb 2019 - A break in the pattern, hot then showers/storms

The Sheoaks cell is nasty. Doppler had some very interesting returns on it during last little while. Sheoaks has also seen nearly 22mm in quick time! Definitely also moving more E than SE in my opinion. Will be interesting to see what else develops in the area. EDIT: That main band does appear to be...

Re: VIC: First week of Feb 2019 - A break in the pattern, hot then showers/storms

Yep, some more local convective development ahead of the main band currently. Still touch and go as to whether Melbourne region will see local development, or if we'll have to rely on the band later (EC this morning had this decaying as it reached central parts though :| ). Amazing looking satellite...

Re: VIC: First week of Feb 2019 - A break in the pattern, hot then showers/storms

The southern portion of the band is unfortunately sparking a few fires (rain isn't has widespread). One west of Terang has 11 appliances attending. It is extremely dry down that way, so hopefully some rain will quickly follow-up.

Re: VIC: First week of Feb 2019 - A break in the pattern, hot then showers/storms

Definitely an unstable day out there. Judging by both the models and obs, appears trough has slowed more than anticipated. Would suggest to me the focus for shower and thunderstorm activity will be about the western districts (as playing out now). EC particularly keen on thunderstorm activity out t...

Re: VIC: First week of Feb 2019 - A break in the pattern, hot then showers/storms

Nice to get a much more milder day thrown into the mix, had started to forget what these types of temps felt like :-P Also just quickly, the BoM's "Simpson South" rainfall site for January (which is on the family farm), had their driest January on record. Just 2.0mm. Records began 1968. That part of...

Re: First week of Feb 2019 - a break in the pattern?

One can clearly see the smoke plumes on the latest satellite imagery. Hopefully conditions ease and firefighters can get on top of the nasty ones.

Re: VIC - Hot and humid with showers and storms: Last week of January 2019

Another burst of heavy rain and frequent lightning/thunder here in Cheltenham. Amazing few storms! Seems to be easing off now and clearing out to the east. Was fun while it lasted :D By the way, great video Stevco! You did well! rumbling thunder in the distance...but cant see much lightning is more ...

Re: VIC - Hot and humid with showers and storms: Last week of January 2019

Had a short burst of heavy rain, but haven't seen any significant falls like some other places. We had multiple cells pass close by, just continuous thunder and very frequent lightning, including a few flangs also! Was awesome, one of the most lightning active storms I've seen in a very long while. ...

Re: VIC - Hot and humid with showers and storms: Last week of January 2019

Squeezed between two lots of storms here in Cheltenham. Have heard plenty of thunder and the wind is very gusty. Plenty of branches flying around thanks to this current dry spell. A few drops on the roof, but missing most currently. Amazing looking cells out there! Development to the northwest of Me...
