Re: Upper trough and weak front: July 28-30

Another chilly day today. Just 11.5c max.

Looks like a thumping great cold front, with follow up fronts, is expected around August 8.

Re: Upper trough and weak front: July 28-30

Cold and cloudy with a max temp of just 10c today. More typical of July.

-ve AAO is starting to influence the forecast charts in about one week's time. Some less boring weather perhaps around August 8.

Re: Upper trough and weak front: July 28-30

Nice to see more rain overnight in Northern Vic. 11mm in Korong Vale, 10mm in Kerang is great for the crops there. I know a few farmers in the area and they're happy atm. Just need good finishing rains in Spring.

AAO is looking like it'll be nice and negative into August. Something to keep an eye on:

Re: Upper trough and weak front: July 28-30

Yeah, it has been on the mild side. Some cold days this week though.

Upgrade in rain totals for tomorrow. Might even get 10mm if we're lucky.

July might end with a bang if EC is on the money for this Monday. It reckons 20mm+ here with a trough.

Re: Sequence of fronts in a westerly stream: July 21-26

42.2mm for the month, and 246.6mm YTD, slightly better than the 214.7mm for this time last year (475.2mm year total - lowest in my 13 odd years of recording...) My numbers are 28mm for the month, 200mm YTD. This time last year we were 165mm YTD, but we ended up with 390mm year total. (Avg is 544mm)

Sadly a bit of a non-event here. Just 2mm. Cold morning and it was foggy early on. Now clear skies.

NEXT!

Re: Sequence of fronts in a westerly stream: July 21-26

Yes, looks like an OK front tomorrow for Vic. Might scrape 5 mm out of it here.

Meanwhile, a good frost this morning. Our first sub-zero morning in 4 weeks. Finally!

Interesting Crickey/Didg

The lack of sub polar jet under Aus is a very pertinent observation imo.
It makes me wonder if the Indian Ocean surface temp anomalies are having an impact? Ie. Warm central Indian Ocean pushing subtropical jet Southwards.

Warm for July this morning, especially with a SWly. Yesterday was freezing in comparison.

Total of 10mm since Wednesday night.

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

Can l 'like' all those posts. ! The 100mm forecast exciting 'Didjman' Especially for the alps. There has been a boom and bust season there this year. The spencer creek depth chart showing that nicely. If we have a metre of snow this next few weeks that spencer creek graph will even look more bizarr...

Re: Unstable with showers and storms: July 7-8

More useful rain again. Nice.

Looks much colder from July 12 onwards. Not the first year it that it took a while for the ski season to get cranking (ie. 2003, 1984, 1991 etc).

Incredible video footage of tornado taken by owner of the home that was destroyed by the Axe Creek tornado. He's one lucky man to be alive:

Update on damage at Axe Creek. Sounds like it was a tornado with a witness describing a funnel touching down before it flattened a brick veneer house to its foundations:
