Re: Low and trough: June 3-6

Dew points temps are still quite high for June, hence all this drizzle. Could get 15mm+ with incoming rainband tomorrow.

Meanwhile Western Australia copped a beauty of a cold front today. Probably just about snowing on Bluff Knoll in the Stirling Ranges.

Re: Low and trough: June 3-6

12mm for us since Friday. This was always going to be an Eastern Seaboard/Tasmania event.

Some eye-popping totals in Northern Tasmania. Lake Mackenzie has had 343mm in the past 2 days :o

As for the rest of the week, maybe another 10-15mm here and then it looks like anti-cyclonic domination....

Re: Low and trough: June 3-6

Looks like a Pineapple Express from the South Pacific that extends down the East Coast of Australia.

I don't see that much rain for us. 10mm at the most I would say.

Re: Strong front then major low: May 23 to 30

A very deep frost in Kangaroo Flat this morning - lots of ice around, even at 9am. Well under 0c.

Interesting that the Bendigo airport AWS didn't get below 1c - bit of a NE breeze stopped it getting below zero there.

Re: Strong front then major low: May 23 to 30

We had our first frost of the year this morning. Some very cold temps in NSW with -9.7c at Cooma being a standout!

Looks like another cold night on the way. Only got to 12c today :D

Re: Strong front then major low: May 23 to 30

15mm so far. And it looks like a similar amount heading our way tomorrow evening.

Some exceptionally good falls to our North on the plains. 33mm at Rochester is a stand-out! A great start to the winter cropping season :D

Meanwhile, a more modest 1.5 mm for us overnight (75 mm mtd) but I'm enjoying getting rain when little or none was expected - it's a whole new feeling :).
A bit of a long shot I reckon. OCF says 25mm in the coming week for Mt Read...

Re: Strong front then major low: May 23 to 30

7mm for the event so far. That takes our MTD to 57mm. Looks like another 20+ mm before the month is done so around 80mm likely for May 2016 - our wettest month since June 2014.

Meanwhile, Mt Read in Tasmania is up to 880mm MTD, and Tassie Hydro storages at 22%.

It's been raining here for a little while. Wasn't really expecting it today to be honest.

Re: Series of fronts in strong westerlies.

Nice cool morning here too. No frosts as yet.

Talking of Tasmania and rain, it's all been falling on the West Coast of Tasmania. Check out Mt Read (632.8mm MTD):

Temps look to be cooling during the week, but not by much....

Event total of 36mm. Happy with that and the difference it's making to the landscape is remarkable. Really greening things up :D

Re: Big Low 8 May - ?

Been very unlucky thus far: 11mm all up. Hopefully something decent today since it looks a bit lean after this.

If we don't get much more from the trailing edge of the main band this morning, then we'll have to rely on storms this afternoon I would think.

Re: Big Low 8 May - ?

00Z GFS still reckons 50mm+ for us. Looks like a classic tropical in-feed off the NW shelf of WA. These systems can really deliver the goods (like they did in 2010-2011).

The paddocks will love it.

I think today will be just the entree to what we'll cop on the weekend...

GFS has upped the ante and is going for >50mm here and a bombing Low off Mt Gambier of less than 980 HPa on Sunday night.

Either a small tornado or decent microburst near Harcourt on Sunday morning:

As for this coming weekend, EC reckons 55mm for us on Sunday with the incoming cyclone :o

Re: Wild, wet and windy - late April-early May

14.5mm overnight. Had some marble-sized hail around 2am. So we've had 25mm all up since Friday morning. Interesting to see that Bendigo AWS didn't register any rain until after 5:30am - perhaps the gauge was jammed up with hail before it melted? Incidentally, many of the forecast models are indicati...
