Re: VIC: First week of Feb 2019 - A break in the pattern, hot then showers/storms
Access C 00z has just run and it's going rogue as well. Location for these totals are hit and miss, as one wiggle with the negatively tilted trough and the big falls move but this gives you the general vibe on how volatile this set up is. The BoM would only be just digesting this latest data, so I ...

Re: VIC - Hot and humid with showers and storms: Last week of January 2019
Beautiful display of CC lightning here in Camberwell, was topped off with about five minutes of driving rain. For about 20 minutes before that there were flashes of sheet lightning every two or three seconds from the north and northwest. Probably the most lightning active storm the inner east has se...

Re: VIC - Hot and humid with showers and storms: Last week of January 2019
I'll believe that rain's coming when I see the approaching rain curtain. I'm glad the monsoon has finally arrived (with a vengeance in FNQ!) so at least there's the possibility of a nice, deep tropical feed to help break this infuriatingly boring snap drought, but yeah I'll believe it when I see it.

Re: Major upper and surface lows 12–16 Dec
Yeah, it wasn't a particularly stormy event for many but the rain that came through on Friday afternoon really was quite incredible for the CBD and inner east - not only for the rain rate but for the direction it came from! To be honest I almost prefer events like this that give you multiple chances...

Re: Major upper and surface lows 12–16 Dec
Feels a lot more stable out there now than it did earlier today, but clearly the odd rumble can't be ruled out for the metro area tonight.
Hopefully this event goes out with a bang tomorrow but even if it doesn't I can't complain, got two pretty impressive whiteouts out of this event in Camberwell.

Re: Major upper and surface lows 12–16 Dec
That Kinglake cell looks as though it is taking a more southerly turn than the rest of the storms in the cluster, could give an absolute smashing to the inner eastern suburbs if it maintains intensity.

Re: Major upper and surface lows 12–16 Dec
Here in Camberwell it has that warm, muggy, still feeling I like when hoping for a storm. I'm pretty optimistic for this afternoon and evening, because this airmass has to be changed somehow!

Re: Major upper and surface lows 12–16 Dec
Absolutely bucketing down here in Camberwell. It's had that feeling since this morning to be honest - muggy and warm with intermittent blue skies. The sky had that characteristic green tinge just before it began pouring, so it wouldn't shock me if there was hail around.

Re: Major upper and surface lows 12–16 Dec
Band has cleared Camberwell - very muggy, a very light northeasterly puff of wind with some blue patches in the sky. To me this is a good sign for later on (better than a dry southerly with 100% cloud cover, that's for sure), but we'll see.

Re: Major upper and surface lows 12–16 Dec
Well, I'm definitely in "wait and see" mode for this one - looks a little too good to be true. Will assume it's not going to happen until Wednesday night at the earliest. That's my coping mechanism and I'm sticking with it!

Re: Victoria: Another big low - 27-29 November 2018
Sydney almost at 100mm for the 24 hours to 9am. :o Now that's what you call a proper rainfall event, unlike the fake "once every 3 months" rubbish that we get here. Meanwhile it's back to watering the garden with no follow up rain. Well, Sydney has a humid subtropical climate, whereas Melbou...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10
Too early to say it's definitely a fizzer, but to me at this stage it all looks a bit ho-hum. A period of at times moderate rain in the morning tomorrow and that's all she wrote. Prove me wrong, Melbourne's atmosphere.☺️ No point getting angry about it if nothing happens, will just make the next out...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10
Um. It's almost 4pm. Nothing seems to be happening. A few racing cells to the coastal south-west of Melbourne and that's about it.
As always taking a "I'll believe it when I see it" approach to anything exciting when it comes to Melbourne's weather.

Re: VIC: Warm, humid and possibly showery/thundery - Feb 18 to 25 2018
It truly has been a remarkably boring, dry, stable month for Central areas. Seems like it will never end, I just hope as Autumn approaches the temperature differentials come into play a bit more and we finally get a worthwhile system come through.

On satellite there are fairly broad cumulus fields popping up pretty much everywhere around Melbourne, so at least some convection is happening.
Doesn't look or feel at all stormy though, unfortunately.

Oh yeah, all my comments should be construed as referring to to the CBD and inner eastern metropolitan area. Other parts 100km or so to the east are in much more favourable conditions, at least for now.

Time to start putting your hopes into diurnal cooling, folks. Seems that those talking earlier about the uppers being too warm were right.

Nope. What you're seeing are contrails. "Chemtrails" are a dumb, easily-debunked conspiracy theory.A fair few chemtrails visible from here.
