Yeah i see an area of light/moderate rain with a rumble or two for Central areas.
That's about it barring some very rapid clearing or the rain band stalling.

schitzengiggles, I think your name accurately describes the nature of the software you're using. That is unless it has any forecasting capabilities whatsoever beyond looking at the last few radar scans and making an assumption from that basis alone... I can do that! That said it may very well be rig...

I thought that line would slip south of Melbourne but as the radar returns just north of Bendigo show, I think I may be wrong.

The speed of sound (thunder) is 343 metres a second (roughly). We can say the speed of light (lightning, ie the time it takes for us to see a lightning strike) is infinitely fast for the purposes of estimating the distance of a lightning strike (299,792,458 metres a second... you see it as it happen...

Re: Victoria: Rain/Storm event: 29th Nov - 5th Dec (Obs)
It wasn't humid enough, there was no trigger and the wind didn't help the cause for the Melbourne metropolitan area. But the next few days look promising trigger wise.:) Edit: just got future reference, I think it's a great clue when one of the experts here say "this set up is perfect... there's jus...

Doesn't feel all that humid to me in Clayton and it's just slightly too windy for my liking.
Watching with interest of course!

Re: Victoria: Low pressure system. March 4th-??? 2010
Question - does all this rain make the atmosphere over central areas less unstable? I can see some promising cells starting up over the border, wondering if they have a chance of making it down here without flattening out?

How many awful posts does it take to get a ban here? A certain user obviously has no intention of providing anything constructive or informative.

Beautiful looking rain band forming with further convection still to the NE...will be flattening out into a really solid band of rain shortly and angling in nicely for central and Western areas...we might even see it tilt a bit more overnight but if the low stays put it may continue to go for hours...

Yeah for some reason or another it's decided to flatten out. Unless something changes thundery rain is essentially all anyone can expect from this band. Too early to tell what may be behind it.

Don't mean to be a negative nancy or anything buuuuuut there is also the possibility that the pivot could very well ensure these storms miss Melbourne just to the west. A lot could happen between Seymour and the CBD.

Re: Victoria: Low pressure system. March 4th-??? 2010
One of the most amazing thundery rain bands is forming as we speak...storm will through the CBD it looks like, only chance for eastern Suburbs is new storms to fire up to our NE...but we will still get rain, and some mammoth totals. As yesterday quite explicitly demonstrated, there is no way to tel...

We've had many intense storms here over the years around dawn due to 'nocturnal cooling' in a humid environment with cold and unstable upper leve...

Re: Victoria: Low pressure system. March 4th-??? 2010
I have never, ever seen the commonly thrown around term "diurnal cooling" (as a storm trigger) occur.
To me it always seems to be the last resort when the best stuff has passed.
A nice light show tonight would be the best way to top off an awesome day though.
