Another huge high that takes a week or more to move through. This one is stuck in the bight and a bit further north so southeast Oz has mainly southerlies with some coastal showers for VIC, and better stream showers for TAS. It will get quite cold and with the high pressure will see some decent fros...

Slightly off topic while we wait for something interesting to happen with the mainland weather... The latest climate driver update makes interesting reading http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/enso/ . BOM have upgraded to La Nina watch, while the threat of a positive IOD (my least favourite driver) has b...

Looks like we have another endless high coming up. This one is a bit further north so cooler and shower in Tas, with an icy Friday and Saturday. Rest of Oz almost everywhere sunshine for days. New thread for the monster high :( Record warmth coming up for the west where they are still basically wait...

Sharp front through Tassie this morning, though cleared quickly. Most spots got 2-5mm with heavier falls in the usual spots. Quick 3mm at our place. Another sneaky front tomorrow. Weather for the mainland is going to be dominated by another huge high. Shaping up for a horrible dry May for much of th...

Such a cool 24 hours. Sea fog around Hobart which eventually cleared for the best solar storm in more than 20 years. Had an awesome surf at Clifton Beach - some thumping waves (biggest were easily 4m top to bottom) still conditions and sea fog. Then massive aurora display in the evening. Sky was dan...

Beautiful sunrise HB.
Another 5mm here to take the total to 25mm. That looks to be about it, with rain now mostly contracting to NSW.
Believe it or not but that was the Auroa and not the sunrise. It was astonishing.

Misty drizzly 24 hours around Hobart. Another 2mm here, but 12mm on the top of the mountain. Closes out this part of the event, though a strong front here through on Monday, but most rain will sit over northern and western TAS. Awesome to see good falls through the centre of VIC and eastern Tasmania...

Rainy night for eastern TAS. Wettest day in Hobart for a month, with some higher falls in the hill suburbs… locally topping 25mm. Still raining lighty. Few spots have seen their wettest spell in over a year. Definitely short of a drought breaker but really welcome. Surprised to see central Victoria ...

Had our first short but quite heavy shower earlier. Bizarre experiencing almost stormy weather with the barometer at 1032 hPa :? (I'm weather-confused a lot these days.) We’ve now had about 15mm with a barometer above 1035hPa. Been foggy to sea level for 48 hours and barely stopped dripping on us. ...

Slow moving broad trough in the easterlies looks like breaking up the dry pattern. System has two parts - a dip coming down the middle of NSW likely to reach about Melbourne’s northern burbs. Looks quite wet for the northern country and north central. Melbourne is on the boundary, but looks like the...

EC is pretty optimistic for a 30mm+ downpour here in Friday from the North. Something to picque my interest for the first time in a while. Finally a new thread 🤗 A trough in a high. This one is pumping quite a lot of moisture but doesn’t have a lot of forcing. Still, looks quite good for eastern TA...

Geez progs have another monster high for next week into the following week. There are two weak troughs between then and now. First sits over eastern Tasmania today, but won’t affect Victoria, second is a broad easterly dip around Friday which might sneak into northern Victoria and eastern Tasmania. ...

An unexpected 1mm from drizzly showers last night. Fine again now, but perhaps a sniff of something from a trough dipping south over Vic at the end of the week? Does look like some local showers and drizzle for parts of VIC around Friday. Slow moving so suspect very hit and miss. TAS looks like get...

First proper frost here for the year. Around 3C in the horse paddock, so pretty patchy.
Highs just roll on.
We might sneak some coastal showers here in the east coast, but looking at VIC, seeing little to none the next 14 days.

Geez progs just keep the high going. Latest GFS has zilch for two weeks and on day 14 the high is still about 1035hPa over the top of us. Never seen anything like this before. Drought is starting to break records across lots of southern Australia now, with the exception of VIC which has had those sn...

0.4mm of drizzle here yesterday. That might be it for the week. Pressure currently on 1035hPa and rising. April was another ordinary month here. Just shy of 40mm. YTD is about 100mm, or just over half of what it should be. Btw the IOD has jumped to +0.7. That’s above the usual threshold, but just a ...

Thread for the next long long spell of nothing weather. This time a very slow and big high anchored in the bight that looks like dominating the weather for a week or two. Will be southwesterly tending southeasterly flow so some showers near the coasts, but for most just cool autumn weather.

Very handy 7mm here. Couple of spots locally got near 15mm, but overall delivered around 5-10mm. Great little system for northeast TAS with a few spots around an inch. Dusting of snow on Kunanyi and quite a heavy fall on Ben Lomond. Now back to southwesterly to northwesterly stream weather. A strong...
