Re: Cold week with occasional showers: June 18-22

Sneaked the edge of a coldie. 2mm of graupel in quick time. Temperature sat on 5C. Feels like it should be colder given the ferocity of the shower.

Another one inbound, maybe.

Just 3km south of here has now had 12mm after scoring three coldies in a row. 5mm here now.

Re: Cold week with occasional showers: June 18-22

Complete dud in FC splitting showers to our north/south/east and west. Was expecting 10mm, but only 3.2mm so far today for us :( MTD about 70mm, and not feeling too confident we will get to average from this point (about 100mm). System is clearly moisture starved with plenty of virga and low DPs and...

Re: Cold week with occasional showers: June 18-22

A few dribbles overnight, but not enough to tip the gauge. Looks to have been about 0.1mm. Wet day ahead, though radar is a bit feeble ATM. I need 34mm to get to average, so hoping to be surprised (EC suggests 15mm give or take). Going to be a cold week for us. Latest EC suggests a max of around 6C ...

Cold week with occasional showers: June 18-22

New thread for the week ahead which will see a strong (though moisture starved) front on Tuesday usher in a cold week with showers and mountain snow. Best of it will be in the usual wet spots (Otways, Yarra Ranges, South Gippsland) with not a lot inland. Uppers are cold so snow will fall below the a...

I can confirm that it’s hailing in Werribee.
Just got the edge of those showers here. Nice dark base, and looked more like a spring storm than winter shower :D

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Another mm in the gauge this morning. Month continues to slowly tick over. Still about 40mm below average here so need it to continue. Had lots of wet days, but mostly dribbles. Quite unstable today with chilly uppers, though no focus so isolated and slow moving. Would not be surprised if the odd he...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Drizzly and foggy morning up here. Looks like it could be a damp day with on and off showers. I was expecting today to be mostly dry with a late shower, but the wstly streams is now quite humid.

Still the odd shower Sun/Mon before a long-lived cold spell (new thread time :D ).

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Decent burst of showers with that front. Didn’t last long but just over 3mm in FC and just shy of 10mm at Walkerville. Nice to get a good string of damp days :D Next week looking wintery with potential for quite low snow levels. Resorts need it with basically zero cm give or take across the Vic reso...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Bit of a surprise 5mm and a bit this evening with that slow moving frontal passage. Event just shy of 25mm. Bit of instability the next two days with an upper trough and weak surface troughs, Should see the odd further shower. Next week looks interesting though how it will evolve is a bit up in the ...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Picked up 3mm overnight so scrapped up to 10mm. Makes about 17mm for the thread. Mainly a northern Vic event though also decent falls in the southern bounce zone. Place at Walkerville scored about 20mm. Couple of showers to come each of the next three days. Great falls in the north, but really mild ...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Forecast for this area was 20mm and up to 35mm in outer areas. We got 7.8mm. As HB said a bit of a waste of a good inflow with the synoptics not staying strong. Still won't complain that it's raining - little bits all add up. 7mm in FC. Big dud actually. All models had more like 20mm for us, so not...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

A quick 2mm with that first burst in FC. Now waiting for the rainband proper. At the airport ATM where the lee rainshadow is obvious with a patch of bright white surrounded by a ring of grey. Just a stunning set up. Expect plenty of records to be set across daily high rainfalls, high mins, high maxs...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Getting really gusty up here atm. Got a flight to Canberra just before lunch which will be a bit of a white knuckle ride :D Fantastic falls back through SA. Plenty of spots in the mid north/flinders close to a months worth of rain already. Be great for the country and farmers up there. Some amazing ...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Looks like mainly a northwest and northeast system to me. Northcentral might also do very well. Suspect falls will peak in the 50-100mm range which is notable for June which rarely throws up big totals. Bit to fast for us in the south and upslide isn’t great. Should still see 20mm here, but with a t...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Still on track for around 25mm tomorrow which will be brilliant for the winter crops. Then it looks like cool temps in a Westerly/Southwesterly regime typical of this time of year after tomorrow. Looks like it should be cool, but the uppers stay rather mild. Could change, but GFS/EC has these sitti...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

7mm today in both FC and Walkerville. Briefly heavy. Then, a beaut mild sunny arvo. Progs wound back a fair bit for Wednesday. Still solid falls at 10-20mm south, 20-40mm north but down from earlier falls which were about double that. Hopefully the event surprises. The infeed is excellent but the Sy...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

6mm overnight in FC and 2mm at Walkerville. Bit more than expected, which is always a nice way to start and event. Way too mild for the time of year. We’re down at Walkerville and didn’t even need the heater last night (which isn’t too normal at 100m poking into Bass Strait). Few hours of showers an...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Rain starting to thicken up nicely ahead of the trough. Already nearly 20mm at Mt Buller, with 2-5mm along the northern side of the divide. Looks like it’s about to start raining in the Melbourne with a bit of thickening rain in the lee of the divide. BTW a bit of instability tomorrow morning. Could...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

Progs wound back a bit. Synoptics not quite as good, and the second part of the system later in the week squeezed a bit by the incoming high. Still looks good, with general 20-60mm falls and over 100mm about the wettest alpine sites. Very useful follow-up. First part incoming for this evening. Quite...

Re: Sequence of fronts with possible low: June 9-15

GFS3 and EC looking very wet this morning. Widespread 40-100mm falls for the week ahead and well above 100mm at the wettest spots in the mountains. Nearly all rain. Even post the big system on Wednesday the 850Ts are about 3C which suggests all rain below about 1600m and mostly rain to about 1900m o...
