Re: VIC - Strong front and trough - Sept 19-22 2019

Very handy 16mm in the gauge and a min of 4C this morning in FC. That means we’re are on 129mm MTD and just had our fifth month above average (about 5mm above average). That’s a remarkable run by the standards of recent decades :D We’ve been so lucky :o Today will mainly see showers out west as the ...

Re: VIC - Strong front and trough - Sept 19-22 2019

Looked to be clearing then went bang. Just scored another quick 6mm. Event up to a rather more healthy 11mm. If my memory serves me correct that puts us about 1mm off our monthly. Geez we’ve got lucky out our way, scoring related hits in the past five months.

Re: VIC - Strong front and trough - Sept 19-22 2019

5mm in FC which is close to what EC had for today. Keeps it ticking over :D Mainly dredges in central areas, as expected. Decent falls out the northeast and southwest as expected. Looks like Coldstream and Viewbank both set new September high record mins. Was the kind of set up where you had only a ...

Re: VIC - Strong front and trough - Sept 19-22 2019

Crazy warm night and now a toss-up between the approaching wind change and 9am to see if the city sets a new September high. Current min of 21.4C with the record to watch 20.5C. EC has the wind change mid morning so could be lineball. Would expect a few other sites in central will be similar (e.g., ...

Re: VIC - Strong front and trough - Sept 19-22 2019

Warm one in the Nongs today with a max of 22C. That’s about 27C sea level equivalent. Rainband looks great in SA, but is peaking and will slip south. We will get the dredges. Should be solid falls out west, but it will thin quickly. Should see 5-10mm in the Dandenongs tomorrow, but never too confide...

Re: Strong front and trough Sept 19-22

I don't think I have started a topic before, but here goes... This front / trough is going to give us a lot of wind as well as some rain. I notice the BoM have a warning out for SA re wind and raised dust. Already we have wind to 42klm/hr here in Wallan. A good start :) Gonna be a couple of warm on...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Nice day up here in the sun, but cold as in the shade. 2.2C to 9.2C. Didn’t see any frost with a stiff southerly despite the chill. Quite an impressive spring snow event on the eastern side of the great divide to our north. Looks similar to the event earlier in winter, though locally heavier around ...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Really cold september day. Daylight max of 5.2C and back to 4.7C now. July temps :D Yeah, cold one here to despite all the sun. Max of just 7.3C. Squeezed out another 0.6mm, so event just on 36mm. About 10mm more than EC which is usually my pick, so a good result. Our MTD is a very healthy 110mm (1...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Very healthy 33mm in the gauge here, 36mm for the event. You must have passed 100mm mtd HB? Pretty good going for just past halfway :). Yep, about 105mm. Will add up tonight to confirm. Our average is about 120mm for September, so not far off that. I've not seen weather like this for years. We are ...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Over 20mm down bottom of hill, Seems over 30mm on top of my hill. Must get WS.. No complaints on the wetness side. Besides that the explosions early evening weren't thunder. Presuming twits mixing chemicals. ? Oh. We heard a bang. Maybe that was it :o Odd noise. Very healthy 33mm in the gauge here,...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Adding up nicely here. Up to 13mm for today now. These nwly unstable set ups usually deliver well for us in the southern Dandenongs.

Rain out west continues to thicken up so plenty more to come.

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Wierd day here with rain, sun, rain, sun and now heavy rain. Clocked up 8mm so far. Quite mild when the sun was out, but chilly when it clouded over. Looks like a wet night. Should get at least 20mm more if the progs are correct :D Throwing it down here all arvo. Sick of it. Bring on the warmth. 22C...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Woken by heavy rain about 5am. About 3mm in the gauge. Cleared now, but convection bubbling away to our west.

A mild, quite humid and unstable day ahead. Might get a rumble, ahead of rain spreading north tonight. Still looks promising - could well see 20-30mm by this time tomorrow :D

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

System for Sunday seems to be holding which is good :) Trough approaching southwest Victoria later today with the associated upper trough amplifying. This system has tapped a good feed of tropical moisture from way back in the mid Indian Ocean so is unusual by recent standards in having some proper ...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Squeezed out 1mm today. Foggy this evening, but overwise a pretty uneventful one. Could see the presence of the IOD with this one with dry prefrontal. Weekend looking promising through the area of moderate rain is pretty tightly bounded to the north, so could easily see a scenario where it slips jus...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Some early indications of an embedded trough and rainband with the cold front next week. It could deliver quite good rain along the Great Divide and Central areas. Looks promising for us, but more heat and wind up north. New thread time, nearly? Bit of a front tomorrow, but not much in it. Perhaps ...

Re: Victoria - Troughs and possible low - September 1-7 2019

A photo of the fog. Quite eerie and very very thick. Camera doesn’t quite get the perspective at times. Out MTD is about 75mm so a great start to the new month locally :) https://scontent.fmel7-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t1.0-9/69947439_10158106938554252_2358713468216934400_n.jpg?_nc_cat=101&_nc_eui2=AeHVWx1...

Re: Victoria - Troughs and possible low - September 1-7 2019

2mm more overnight. Has been quite heavy at times despite the lack of rain on the radar. Also very very thick fog. Viz down to about 50m. Bit of a contrast from Perth we’re I have been for a few days where yesterday saw a record early season heatwave and a max of 33C. Farmers there are on a knife ed...

Re: Victoria - Troughs and possible low - September 1-7 2019

Cold wet and windy night in the Nongs. Min of 2C with a further 10mm in the gauge :D Bit of icy stuff lying in the garden this morning, which looks to be a mix of graupel and hail. Probably not quite cold enough for snow, but could have been some flurries in the wee hours :D Clearing now. Progs are ...

Re: Victoria - Troughs and possible low - September 1-7 2019

Nice winter, err spring, day. 14mm for us. Seems that the official Ferny Creek AWS is under reading a bit ATM, or perhaps we are just getting lucky at our place. MTD is about 60mm now. Ticking along nicely. Another 12-18 hours of cold and showery conditions. Should see the odd flurry down to about 7...
