Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Another foggy start, but cloud base has now lifted. The southeasterly is gusty and feels freezing TBH. Currently 6.5C. 0.4mm in the gauge from mizzle, but more like 10 to 20mm of fog drip under trees. Makes for a odd look around the garden with some areas sodden and water trickling, while others loo...

Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Thick fog up here in the Nongs with a gusty southeasterly flow. Unfortunately these events see us rainshadowed to the south and east so not really delivering here with just 1.4mm in the gauge. Got one brief heavy shower yesterday, which locally dropped up to 5mm around us, but was quite hit and miss...

Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Usually struggle here in northeasterlies, with just 4.4mm in the gauge. Foggy morning and should get the odd showery band through central as the day goes on. Focus is shifting north and east, with the best falls likely on the southern to central coasts of NSW.

Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Looked like it was gonna rain all day here, but only spotty most the time. Some heavier stuff just to our east, so might do ok. Been in and out of fog with a max of 9C. Classic slow moving heavy bands rotating around the upper low, making for real hit and miss totals. Whole system is weakening as th...

Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Some showers and storms firing now. Might scrape the northern and eastern burbs if they keep on the same trajectory.

Progs tending to up totals. EC now has near 40mm for parts of central and solid falls out east. Big split, though, with models showing big differences so not confident.

Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Should start to see showers and perhaps even the odd rumble move into Vic today. More extensive tomorrow. Progs are jumpy and divergent, so pretty uncertain. Incoming low stalls, upper trough amplifies and deep low forms on the east coast. Details will matter a lot.

Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Systems starting to look quite significant. The initial low stalls over Victoria and weakens then a strong upper trough amplifies into NSW and a major east coast low develops off the NSW coast. It looks like being a major rain producer with potential for big waves, storm surges and gales or worse on...

Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Looks the focus is drifting north in the progs. Surface low stalls near the SA/Vic border while the upper trough amplifies into Queensland and then a deep low forms in the Tasman Sea. Progs have been jumpy and details will matter a lot, and are uncertain. Could see 2 or 50mm in the Nongs.

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

No snow chases for the next 6 weeks - might not get one in this year which is sad... Gonna need one of the Dandenongs specials. Not looking like it in the progs yet, but live in vague hope. Looks like a nice day ahead, and indeed a nice few days. Fortunate to be on holiday in Walkerville, but with ...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Fog, fog and more fog. Max of 7.4C here with all day fog. Never experienced a whole winter in the Nongs (usually a commuter but now a telecommuter) and it’s giving me appreciation for endless fog  Six more weeks of it :? Progs getting jumpy again for the weekend. PS stay safe all. This sec...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Day six of fog and drizzle here. Soggy and boggy out there :o Not one to complain about rain, but must admit we’ve probably had enough for a while :D Our YTD is now 1030mm. Our average for the next 5.5 months is 700mm, so a normal end to the year puts us on target for about 1700mm. If the La Niña ki...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Highest temperature in Victoria/Tasmania combined today was Devonport with 16.0 degrees. Bit of a contrast to southern Vic which is sat in anticyclonic gloom. Had fog and drizzle here all day. Is going to be one of those systems which rains to the last isobar on the incoming high :D Max of just 7.4...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Another 24 hours of fog and drizzle. 13mm more in the gauge. We are nearing 60mm for the dates, while a few spots north of here are in the 80-110mm range. One more front through middle of the day, before the incoming high. Looks like a mild week ahead with light winds. Not really the type of weather...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Thick drizzle and fog all night. Nearing 20mm more in the gauge, and about 40mm for the event. Could well continue like this for another 24 to 36 hours. It might clear briefly then redevelop. Some much heavier falls around the middle part of the Dandenongs. Few spots showing between 50 and 70mm for ...

Drizzle and fog here all day. Been heavy at times this evening. Classic warm air advection.

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Showery night up here with temperatures around 3C. 19mm in the gauge. Have swly warm air advection for the next 36 hours so should be showery/drizzly and slowly warm.

Solid snowfalls in the alps with 10-30cm pretty widespread, though the southern slopes will probably revert to damp drizzle today.

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Just check my max. 5.4C. No wonder it felt cold each time I went out :D was below 5C most of the day, apart from an hour or so just before the rain. We scored a wet snow shower on the back end of the front. Temperature dipped to 2.4C. Short and sharp, and now back around 3C. So far just shy of 12mm ...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Quite the winters day in the Dandenongs. 11mm of rain so far, and temperature now down to 3.0C. Would put the current snow level around 650m ATM.

Might be a chance for a bit of sleet here if the showers turn heavier again.

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

0.6mm overnight. Nice front for today. System off Mt Gambier is waving and standing up. Hits central Vic mid afternoon. Burst of heavy rain. Snow line drops to about 800m for a period. Will slide under the Wimmera/Mallee but rest of the state should get a decent drop. Then makes for a cold wet weeke...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Breezy night with 3.4mm in the gauge. Was expecting a bit more but not to be. Apparently some rumbles about but I slept through them

Today’s a bit of an in-between day ahead of the strongest front in the sequence tomorrow arvo.
