Re: Low & Cold Front 20-24 November

Progs not changed. All showing 50-100mm for most areas east of (about) Melbourne. Southeest tending to get around 25mm, while northwest more like 10-20mm. Looks like the best event since December last year if it comes off :D Tuesday looks good for some significant storm action. I've added a couple o...

Re: Another Decent Cold Front: Nov 12-15

Home to find 8mm in the gauge. The TBRG got blocked by a now dead beetle so failed to capture what fell. OK fall in the end, though not quite the total the early model runs were showing. MTD is not far of 70mm, so should have an above average month, assuming next week delivers). Still need about 500...

Re: Low & Cold Front 20-22 November

Progs look very good this morning. Widespread 50-100mm the next seven days. Not a lot of difference between them. Expecting widespread showers, rain and storms, then a very wet and windy cyclonic swly spell. Could well be some very heavy falls in the Yarra Ranges and a decent storm surge if the prog...

Re: Another Decent Cold Front: Nov 12-15

Just on 5mm in the end. Progs more or less got it in the end, showing a late bounce in central areas. Bit surprise the northeast didn't get more, through perhaps it will get a bit more today. Keeps things ticking over. Perhaps a little more to come today for central areas, but more or less dry now f...

Re: Another Decent Cold Front: Nov 12-15

Rather a hot one in FC today with a minimum of just 20C for us. Not really holding out much hope for this system. Has all moved north and east on successive runs of the models. There’s reasonable Instability, but the low levels are generally dry. Bit frustrating to watch this event slowly fade as it...

Re: Another Decent Cold Front: Nov 12-15

Progs doing the wiggle thing again

EC mainly shifted east. CMC and GFS3 still have good falls quite general. Across all models the northeast looks good for 20-50mm.

Could get 5 or 25mm in FC. Hoping for some followup as some toastie weather in the offering in the next ten days.

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

Picked up a mm from that band of showers. Poured down for about 1 minute, then spat for the next hour or so :?

Guess that's probably it for the event. Just over 60mm. Good start to November, and hopefully next week now delivers the follow-up. Just about new thread time :D

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

That firecracker lightening and thunder, Hit a tree 2 doors away.. bark missing and spread all over the place. Got a photo? We had lightning hit a big gum tree in our garden about four years ago. Blew the bark off the tree to a depth of about 5cm from about 20 metres up to the ground. Tree has neve...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

I'm a bit worried the overnight frost in much of inland Vic may have done some damage to what was left of winter crops. Not good. Had heard some significant concern ahead of last night. The positive IOD/El Nino springs are nasty as the sunny and dry days bring the crops forwards, and then we get th...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

Wow, those photos are stunning. Shame it missed here by about 5km :( We got a storm like that in the Dandenong back in about 2012. The hail was about 5cm deep on flat ground, and double or more that where water pushed it into piles. Shame we don't get more of them ;) 5.2mm in the gauge for us. EC ha...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

Multiple booms here from the complex. We’ve been just on the edge with 1.4mm, with the serious stuff typically 2-10km to the north :( Multiple short spells of hail and graupel. Would imagine Mt Dandenong will be covered in hail about now looking at the radar. Private weather station just below Mt Da...

Big rumble here from that cell. Going to our north, so be a miss here. 0.6mm in the gauge so far.

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

11.3C today which definitely felt winters after the recent warm and humid conditions. We did manage to split the showers, with just 0.4mm in the gauge. They are pretty sparse and radar is overdoing it with bright banding. Should be a cold one tonight, with likely frost inland. Showers in the south b...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

To use horse racing terminology - I am the last one home by a long way - still on 1mm lol :o And the dust is dry again! Oh. That’s rotten luck. I see the usual wetter spots such as Kinglake, Mt Saint Leonard and Marysville all struggled. Progs were tending to show two peaks near east central and ag...

Yarra has reached the minor flood level. Amazing.

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

Well I'm over all this "models" and everything else - how many times now have i been seeing maps and other talk about the bet "setups "" in ages only for nothing to happen - then the tune change to "oh thats coming tommorow now", or the maps changed mid way through the day. I really cant see the re...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

46mm here today and still raining. About 9mm before 9am and the rest after. 18Z gfs has just 9mm, so guess we got lucky :D Few spot falls in the 60mm to 70mm range so locally almost a months worth of rain in a day. Band of showers over the far west should kick on the showers late today, but not a lo...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

All over here - 0.8mm in my AWS! Manual gauge has 1mm. Hmm Geez that sucks :( These events where it trains can be real hit miss. We’ve done pretty well here with 40mm now, but just west of here a few sites are near 60mm. Best fall in ages locally. Puts the fire season off for a couple more weeks an...

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

Torrential here atm. Garden a lake even though we are at the top of a hill :o Sheets of water on the roads.

Had 36mm so far for today, plus the 4mm yesterday. Rain consistently falling at about 50mm/hr so every few minutes under the band ratchets the total up.

Re: Significant rain event: November 4-10

Nearly 9mm in the gauge from that storms. Briefly heavy with peak rain rate of 80mm/hr. Bit heavier just west of here with a few sites showing 10-15mm. That band near Avalon is a dumper. Has a nasty cell on its top end as well. Appears to be a decent outflow cross the Bay now. Btw bit slow, but here...
