Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019

Min of 24C in FC. That’s a couple of degrees above our average max for January, so another warm one already. Going to be verging on hot in the south today, and hot in the north but shy of the crazy heat of the past few days up there. The fierce heat will be over NSW. Cloud and showers will take the ...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019

A couple of 40's in a row here, maybe another one today. Not quite the 2013 heat level but getting close. First negative SAM since early November at the moment. Ominous signal for the next 10 days for a strong frontal system squeezing the pressure gradient. EC projecting a serious code red next Thu...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019

36C back in FC. About 30C here in Walkerville with thick sea fog over Bass Strait. Vis was down to less than 100m this arvo on Waratah Bay with a mid 20s temperature. Crazy stuff :( Another awful day inland tomorrow but edging colder in the south. Still no real change to flush this record heatwave a...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019

36C back home in FC so another stinker. That’s about 41C sea level equivalent so serious heat  Currently down at Walkerville with sea fog and about 20C. Was super humid here today, with car showing a temperature around 27C. Perfect beach day, Today should be the peak of the heat in southern Vi...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019

Nice morning here with a min of 15C. Hot one almost state wide, though sea breezes will keep it bearable in the south. Not seeing much change across the models. Fierce heat in the north with low to mid 40s for northern Vic and much of NSW. Probably see a few numbers above 46C as the week rolls on. T...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019

Max of 26C here in the end. Cool breeze fighting it out with an intensely hot sun. Four hot days now, though in the south winds will tend onshore most arvos which will temper things. Up north, nasty heat right through, tending to peak Tuesday and Wednesday. Will see a few 45C pluses up in the northw...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019

Remember the flash drought last summer? Well looks like this is how our summer are to be now. Cannot see decent rain for a long time. Yep, really starting to dry out now. Three weeks since the last proper rain here. Will get to four looking at the Progs. We have had three mini events during that pe...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 14 Jan 2019

A very warm 27c outside atm, already past the forecast temp of 25c 🤷‍♂️ They will calculate today's maximum as of 9am. The current 27 is not the maximum for today. :) Also currently raining here, a big contrast to the forecast "mainly sunny" We've had two brief showers. This is classic elevated war...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 14 Jan 2019

29C in FC yesterday. Our hot summers looks like grinding on. Mid 30s to low 40s in the north for the next seven days. Mainky high 20s to high 30s south. Olympic Park and other sea breeze prone sites will get relief, but away from them it’s going to be quite hot right through. Potential for a bad fir...

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

Well you wouldn't get two more different days than today and yesterday. We even managed 0.5mm of rain to go with a max of 18C; 20C below yesterday's! (And thanks for the wise words Jake - well done.) We maxed out at 15C here today after yesterday’s 38.3C. That’s a 23C turnaround. I’m not sure I’ve ...

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

1mm in the gauge this morning. Guess that kinda settles the dust. Maybe a shower or two more today. Feels cool out after yesterday’s scorcher. Looks like yesterday was the hottest day in the city in five years. Would guess many places pretty similar. I’ll be happy If that’s the one and only stinker ...

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

0.4mm from those brief high based storms. Much better than the 38.3C we scored earlier in the day, which is about the equal second highest I’ve seen since 2001 (the record here is not great). We are usually 5-6C cooler than the city on the very hot days with lots of vegetation, elevation and being e...

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

Putrid 39C here. That's about 44C sea level equivalent. The only day I've seen which was clear hotter here was Black Saturday (which got to ~41C). Not much wind and quite humid. Bit of convection firing ATM.

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

Wind change surging up the bay. It's about half way up, so probably 30 minutes out from Melbourne. The 4pm forecast looks to be right on track :o In the end the change has just been a tiny bit too soon for a 47C in the Mallee. Thinking another hour or two and would have been a definite. BTW 41.6C at...

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

Wind change is moving painfully slow through the Bay Heads - just hit the area around Port Lonsdale. Looks like the change has moved through the western Mallee, with a peak of 46.0C. Currently 36.6C here. Thinking we will see a surge in temps in the next hour pre-frontal in central areas. Gotta be a...

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

Mt Gellibrand is 42C at ~250m. That's about 44/45C sea level equivalent :o The peak of the heat in the progs has been quite consistently in the area from about Mortlake to northwest of the city. 46.0C at Walpeup :?

The wind change has just gone through Torquay, so just south of the Bay Heads.

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

Change through Aireys Inlet, so ~100km away from the city. Avalon and Geelong now both 43C rounded. Hot spot in Victoria thus far is 45.0C at Walpeup. At this point, would tend to think the Victorian Dec record is not out of the question with a few more hours of heating :(

Re: VIC: Scorcher - December 24 2018 to January 5 2019

Temps taking off as expected. Mildura will be near 45C by 1pm, with the mark already reached just across the border at Renmark. Most sites in Melbourne metro now nudging 40C or worse. Bit of a contrast in conditions across Melbourne with winds east of north and fairly light out east and west of nort...
