Sequence of fronts in a westerly stream: July 21-36

Week of fronts zipping through in a broad westerly stream. On track to have a front about every second day. Not particularly cold - more like August or September, than mid July. Not a lot with each front, but will be a few mms for southern and mountain areas with each front, and more in the usual we...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 19 July

Sneaked 0.2mm of mizzle yesterday so our run of wet days continues (now up to 13 days). Another front for tomrrow morning, with locally a few mms. Gonna get a weak/moderate front about every second day the next week. Unfortunately, not a lot penetrating far inland and not very cold, but coastal part...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 19 July

Bit over 3mm overnight. MTD near 95mm. Looks dry for 36 hours now, then the odd shower on Sunday.

Becoming quite mild. Nothing unusual, but not really that wintery.

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 19 July

Radar starting to thicken up as the next front approaches. Still one more to come after this on Sunday morning, though that one could slip under us. MTD here is now on 90mm. Need about 20mm to average. Be nice to score that overnight, but suspect more like 5-10mm. Progs starting to look drier for th...

Well that Front was only a sprinkle here in Melbourne, is there any follow up rain tonight?
EC had 4mm here for today and we got 4mm. Never was much weather in this one. Same tomorrow, though EC does have 5mm so about 20% wetter :P

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 19 July

Damp, foggy and drizzly day in the Dandenongs. Another 4mm banked :D We missed the heaviest showers but made up for it with drizzle.

Next front tomorrow. About 20mm to our average. Might almost get there by weekend.

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 19 July

Fog and drizzle more or less non-stop the past 24 hours. About 3mm in the gauge. Sneaky front later today, which will bring more wind and showers. Same again tomorrow. They aren’t overly impressive, but might be worth a few mms. We are up to ten wet days in a row so turning turning into quite a damp...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 19 July

Foggy and drizzly this morning. Just 0.4mm overnight.

Turned mild here at 7C. We’ve got warm air advection for the next two days (so tending drizzly), before a couple of sneaky fronts to close out the sequence. Could well get another 20mm before it is done here.

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 19 July

Mild (for a winter swly) foggy and drizzly day up here. Just shy of 3mm more in the gauge. Damp weather continuing still late on Thursday into early Friday. We could make our monthly average by the end of the week at this rate :D If we pass average, that would make 3 months in a row (which doesn’t h...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

Nastynight in the Dandenongs with fog, heavy drizzle and occasional downpours of rain and hail and some hefty wind gusts (a few big branches down in the garden, one of which just missed the chook shed by about 30 cm :o ) Just less than 30mm in the gauge :D MTD is approaching 80mm. Could crack averag...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

 Sticking my nose back in here after a very long, and busy, time. Loving the fronts! Small hail and thunder yesterday, max temp of 10.2C, only 3.2mm. Welcome back :) Perfect winter day in the Dandenongs. Fog and non-stop drizzle, with occasional bursts of heavier rain. 10mm so far :D M...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 Jul

Fine cold night here, but that’s about to change with a front coming up from the southwest. This is one of those sliding fronts (comes up then tends to slide along its axis). Expecting some heavy falls through the Yarra Ranges to South Gippsland. EC has about 20mm here next 24 hours, and spot falls ...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

Just got back from a snow chase up to Mt Donna Buang. Snowing heavily up there, blizzard like. Snowing down to the turn off road to the summit. I was in a 4x4 so I was able to get to the top car park - but they closed the last bit of road to the summit. Put the 4X4 in snow mode and it did not slip ...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

Getting showers here now. Alternating between rain, sleet, graupel and snow. Temperature of 3C so about 0.5C too warm for propr snow. Next shower might chill it a bit more :?:

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

3C here ATM and edging down. About 0.5C too warm for snow currently. Had no more in the gauge overnight (so 6mm past 24 hours), but did get a couple of brief bursts of graupel. Incoming trough should be with us within the next hour. Is very well timed for snow, just comes down to a degree or so of t...

Just started to snow. 1.2C
Yay :)

Down to 4C here. Getting spitty showers. Thinking we will dip to around 2C overnight looking at the 850Ts. Synoptics look quite good for snow, just comes down to a degree or so at this point for the Dandenongs.

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

Cold air moving in here now with temperature down to 5C. Got a sharp shower with the leading edge of the cold air with a flurry of small hail. Had 6mm here so far today, so steadily adding up. Looks like a cold, windy night with the odd shower. Next trough wips through tomorrow morning with showers ...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

The sky/clouds have that snowy look here today, whereas yesterday it was just that leaden, wintry wet look. Fingers crossed. Not overly cold though. 6.5C at home now. Is mild here ATM. Been hovering around 9C with drizzly rain, and the odd heavier burst. Had some small hail just before. 5mm in the ...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

Nothing more overnight (so 3mm for the 24 hours, plus 7mm the 24 hours before that) but has set in again since about 8am. About 1.5mm so far this morning. Quite mild ATM with a temperature of about 8C. Colder air will start to move in from early arvo. 850Ts look like dropping a little below -4C so m...

Re: Vic: Fronts and troughs 9 - 16 July

Welcome chasersaddict! More showers moving through, things are ticking over. Access C projecting 20 to 30mm in the next 24 hours locally and big precip totals in the NE ranges. Could be an extra 2 foot of snow for places like Hotham and Falls creek from now to Sunday. Chilly damp day in the Dandeno...
