Re: Series of fronts ending with cold outbreak: June 11-18

BoM has updated their forecast as well as post a road weather alert... I must say I believe they should have done this quite a few hours ago. Will be interesting to see some totals from the western suburbs. Possibly up to 50 mm locally

Re: Series of fronts ending with cold outbreak: June 11-18

Very surprised there's been no road weather alert for the metropolitan area. Some places have been absolutely hammered, notably Viewbank and in the last 15 minutes the Airport. Just missed the convergence zones from my location and the sun is out :( That being said, we've had 25 mm here since last n...

Re: Major low and possible cold outbreak : May 7-14

Can't remember the models picking this to do so well in the west? A few of the models did indicate that areas west of Melbourne's CBD would do well. Of course it's difficult to keep track of all of them, especially when they kept chopping and changing due to this system's complex nature. Watching t...

Re: Major low and possible cold outbreak : May 7-14

Hobart needs 28 more mm to pass the all time record! Won't happen in 37 minutes but the scenes unfolding there are just incredible. As JS pointed out the SST anomalies are pretty high at the moment. And this was always going to make this event that little bit extra. Absolutely dead calm here at the ...

Re: Major low and possible cold outbreak : May 7-14

Reports coming in of some serious flash flooding in Hobart. Cars being washed down streets. Houses innundated. Wettest Hobart day in 58 years and I daresay they have never experienced a period of rain like this in recorded history

Re: Major low and possible cold outbreak : May 7-14

This is just berserk. My cousin has just flown over from Hobart and when I told her what is currently happening there she couldn't believe she was missing it! 5000 odd without power now and rising. Hopefully those storms track a little further south :S this is becoming quite serious. Hope your daugh...

Re: Major low and possible cold outbreak : May 7-14

Hobart wow... Just wow. They may clock the ton here. Officially their highest May daily rainfall on record. Could they break the all time record of 156 mm... ;) EDIT/ Surely flooding in Hobart right now. Interesting phenomenon with the rainbands splitting. I'd assume it may be from the weakening are...

Re: Major low and possible cold outbreak : May 7-14

The latest BoM 4-day forecast map now shows a beastly low @987 hPa just off Wilson's prom, which gives the Central district a bulls-eye in my opinion. Looking forward to the afternoon weather forecast, as well as the next run of the EC model!

Re: Classic autumn start March 1st to.....

Somehow copped 8 mm last night in the inner NE burbs. Even playing back the radar loop I don't understand how we got that much. It was enough to make our grass return to green so I'm happy. Progs for Saturday look interesting. Not very concordant between models just yet but hoping it will tighten up...

Melbourne now included in the SWW for heavy rainfall! EC has also upgraded its rain forecast totals with a focus on central Vic! Interesting night ahead folks. Keep the reports coming :D

Re: Hot, humid with some storms: January 24-31

Absolute ripper of a storm cell out east of Traralgon just stalling. Will be some big totals out there. Also high cloudtops on that cell near Maryborough associated with the line of storms. Still anxiously waiting on rain for the eastern and inner metro but it sure is taking its sweet time! EDIT// u...

Re: Hot, humid with some storms: January 24-31

@WV Yup, barely much of a cool change but it will only be a few degrees cooler. It will make its way up the bay and hit the metro area in the next hour or so. It will still however, be very muggy and we won't feel the fresh cool air until tomorrow around late morning. //EDIT I would say it's a "...

Re: Hot, humid with some storms: January 24-31

Inevitable to reach the 35/20 mark for the CBD (barely off it now). Absolutely insane weather this has been. Interesting to hear HB, as I was also at Waratah Bay. The fog shrouded us for the entire day yesterday leaving Walkerville in the sun. Was quite simply incredible. GFS keen on heavy falls for...

Re: Summer heat followed by possible showers: January 17-24

Extremely weak trough but the temperature should be on the slide thankfully as the evening progresses. Some PWS' showing over 50 c in South Australia and 49 c in Jeparit! Take those with a grain of salt though as a lot of people don't know how to properly set up and calibrate weather stations. Looks...

Re: Becoming hot with a thunder change: Dec 16-19

My place not quite far enough east for the heavens to open. Was all developing overhead and moving ESE. Unfortunate for me, but for those in outer east: enjoy. That cell out in the northern country is a monster

Re: Becoming hot with a thunder change: Dec 16-19

Should begin to go bang in an hour or so I reckon. Surface heating is gonna make things hasten. Gotta say I'm really ticked off about how the media reports these things. "Thunderstorms, Giant Hail to Batter City". I mean commmeee on. The hyperbole is just extreme. They say that "they ...

Re: Victoria: Thundery then a major rain event - 28th Nov to 4th Dec 2017

Jeez I'm finding it difficult to really pin point where the bass strait low is. Maybe just off the coast of Sale? Either way, whatever that does will determine the rain for Central parts. This convergence is really something else. I've dug a trench in front of our garage (which has only 3 aggie pipe...
