Re: January 9-16: Warm to hot, with the odd shower

We out-performed all the models here today with 16.6mm. All models were projecting around 2-5mm this morning. In the end, we were lucky to score several direct hits with very heavy rain, mostly this evening, including a couple of hail showers. Saw some lightning as well, although most of this was ou...

Re: January 9-16: Warm to hot, with the odd shower

Some drizzle here earlier this morning. Enough to wet the ground but not enough to actually register in the gauge. It was a very warm evening, staying around 26-28 degrees with the change not fully coming through until just after midnight. Just a max of 20c today though, so much more comfortable. It...

Re: January 9-16: Warm to hot, with the odd shower

Max of 33.3c here today. Looking forward to the cool change tonight, even if the respite is brief. Still nothing really coming up for rain in the foreseeable future.

Re: January 9-16: Warm to hot, with the odd shower

A sunny 27.6c currently here. Our warmest day since 27th December. Rainfall is looking very limited over the next couple of weeks according to current model projections, with a few bursts of heat, but Week 2 is out on fantasy island so you never know, it might change. That said, it looks like tropic...

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

Around 5mm here overnight. Another grey day, although the sun popped out briefly a few times. Now back to drizzle, but it’s very light so I doubt it will add up to much. Looks to be warming up a bit tomorrow, and especially from Friday, and then maybe some rain (or storms) later next week if models ...

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

Don’t understand how a house in Melbourne could be cold enough to need a heater on! Similar story to HB. We have a well insulated house, but the past two days the temp has been stuck between 12 and 14c, which is pretty much the daytime temperature in a Melbourne winter, plus with continuous fog and...

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

Another 20mm here this morning and now a touch over 97mm for the event. Seems to be easing off, mostly just drizzle now. Another softie here too ;) The heater is on and for some of yesterday as well. I would have had the wood heater going except the drizzle blew into the wood shed and drenched the w...

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

30mm here since midnight. Quite a lot more than I was expecting, with drizzle frequently turning to heavier rain. Takes us up to 77mm for the event. Quite a lot of high falls in the region, especially south of Macedon.

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

Up to 21.8mm here since midnight. The drizzle stopped for a few hours late this afternoon, but has now returned. Chilly here too (at least for January), with a max of 14c, and 12.8c currently.

Couldn't agree more. It has been amazingly mild so far this summer, which is just perfect as far as I am concerned! Unfortunately, the heat is on its way :(

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

14.6mm here since midnight, with almost continuous drizzle and showers. The drizzle is quite thick, so adding up a lot. That puts us on 33mm for the event so far, with some more to come during today.

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

A fair amount of thunder and lightning this morning. Dropped 17mm here but has now cleared and the sun is out. Still hearing the odd distant rumble as it heads east, but unfortunately, the band is also becoming patchier according to the latest radar. In the end, the positioning of the trough wasn't ...

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

Just 0.4mm here today, with a brief shower. I watched the storms develop overhead this afternoon, only to start dropping rain just to our east as they headed across to Melbourne. Shame they couldn’t have formed just a little further west! It was always going to be a hit and miss scenario though. Lot...

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

Was pretty much expecting storms to be fairly sparse today given that the trough, and the main convergence zone, is sitting out well to the west, but lucky if you manage to get under one of the slow moving ones and there's still a good chance of some decent storms to pop up in central areas today. T...

Re: Finally a storm outbreak first week of the New Year??

Gloomy and misty here all day, with light drizzle until lunchtime and 1.4mm. Models are definitely looking interesting, especially later in the weekend. Finished the month here on 42mm, which is about 5mm or so below average. December is typically one of our driest months of the year. But a good yea...

Re: Brief hot spell followed by a strong front: December 26-27

Yes it certainly seemed like a squall line that passed through here. The rain looked heavier on the radar than it actually was. It’s moving fairly quickly but quite a few more bands to come. Now down to 16c here. Not really expecting a lot here - maybe a couple of mms in total.

Re: Brief hot spell followed by a strong front: December 26-27

The wind change has just moved through here, now coming from the south. It turned wild just before the change, gusting close to 60km/h. A little patter of rain so far but nothing to actually wet the ground. Peaked at 30c today, which felt very hot after the long spell of cool weather.

Re: Rain and storms: December 21-23

Finished the event with 32.6mm here. As Gordon pointed out, the models weren’t great with projected rainfall for the central ranges, but EC was generally closest while GFS really struggled. A few cool days ahead to add to an already mild December. We’re running at almost two degrees below average fo...

Re: Rain and storms: December 21-23

It has been raining all afternoon here, with occasional heavy bursts. 26mm for the event so far, with 15.6mm falling this afternoon. Currently 12.6c and has been mostly around that for the best part of the day.
