Re: Series of troughs then a deep low: April 1-5

Nice to see areas of rain appearing on the radar, though still a fair way off. Feels like it has been ages, and great to see a bit of an upgrade on the models. I wonder though if we’ll get a bit rain shadowed here, but time will tell. It has been a great year so far for rain, as well as cooler temps...

Re: Settled week then rain? 23-31 March

5.1mm here. Heavy to start and then gradually got lighter as the afternoon wore on. Sun is just poking out now.

That takes us to 102mm for the month, which was already above average after the heavy rains at the start of the month.

Re: COVID-19 Discussion and Information

Glad you're recovering HB. Sounds like it was an awful experience, especially having to be at the point of visiting the hospital. Hope your sister is OK too Rivergirl. This is definitely not some kind of ordinary flu. The pandemic is moving so fast as well, so who knows where things will be in anoth...

Re: Settled week then rain? 23-31 March

Cool the past few days, generally around 14-15c maximum and 7-9c minimum, and mostly cloudy. That of course changes over the next few days. Enjoying the autumn colours starting to appear around the place. Would be nice to look forward to some decent rain, although nothing significant is appearing on...

Re: Warm to hot with a change: March 17-20

3.6mm here today. Has been quite a while now since we had a good fall of rain. Thankfully March started with some big rain so everything is still green, and it really does feel that summer is over. In fact, we’re on track for another cooler than average month here. Incredible times right now, so may...

Had 0.8mm overnight with a bit of drizzle. Looks like that could be it for quite a while! Enjoying the cool weather, though it will be heating up a bit this week.

Re: Strong front preceding possible ECL 13-15 March

A fail here as well, at least in terms of model forecasts. We had a brief burst with some big drops but really only caught the rain as it developed over us and moved east. So nothing to register in the gauge. It’s currently gusty here and the temp has dropped from 26c this afternoon to 12c. At least...

Re: Strong front preceding possible ECL 13-15 March

It sure felt warm today. Must have become used to cooler weather because it felt hotter than it actually was. Had a max here of 27.5c. Hopefully a decent bit of rain to come on Friday, then it looks like another, possibly quite long, stretch of dry weather. Not exactly unusual in March, but thankful...

Re: Strong front preceding possible ECL 13-15 March

Still a bit of variation across the models on projected rainfall totals for Friday’s front, but generally higher for east central which is to be expected. Maybe about 5mm or so here, possibly up to 10mm if we’re lucky, taking into account a bit of rain shadowing. Pleasant autumn day today. Max of 21...

2.4mm overnight here with fog and drizzle. A couple of brief showers today but not enough to register. Max of 17c, so another cool one. Some trees around here are starting to get their autumn leaves. Definitely feels like the season is changing.

Re: 1-7 March: Cold front then ex TC or trough?

85mm all up here. Drizzled fairy constantly today, which gave another 6 or so mm. The ground is well and truly sodden now, with water struggling to drain away. Amazing system and really interesting how it fooled models for the most part as well as the BOM. MTD is 87.2mm and YTD 306.2mm. A really gre...

70mm at Mt Macedon.
I was thinking about your bull ants building Mount Fuji’s in your driveway the other day. Seems to have been a more reliable sign of big rain ahead than the models!

Yeah in the end GFS nailed it for us. The BOM had us down for 2 to 8mm - a long way off!

An amazing 78.6mm here. It just hammered down all night. I was initially thinking we might get around 10 to 20mm - got that very wrong!

Re: 1-7 March: Cold front then ex TC or trough?

3.2mm here so far. 16.2c and a DP of 15.6c. Currently raining, but it’s fairly light. Still not sure what to expect over the next 24 hours. The models are more consistent now in terms of the western boundary, but projected totals are varying quite a lot. Definitely a wait-and-see situation!

Re: 1-7 March: Cold front then ex TC or trough?

The latest model runs put the rain a little further west. Interesting that GFS has been progressively extending the boundary westward with most model runs. It was well out in the east of Victoria a couple of days ago. Anyway, might all change tomorrow morning, so we’ll see.

Re: 1-7 March: Cold front then ex TC or trough?

Yeah some intense rainfall forecast for the north east. Some areas up there do need some good rain, although 200mm+ might be a bit much all at once. Looking very marginal here. I may end up watching rain sliding to our east, but for now I live in hope for something decent! 17c today after a low of 8...

Re: 1-7 March: Cold front then ex TC or trough?

Yes there's still a bit of uncertainty in the models, especially for central areas, although they've been consistently showing good falls in the north-east and across the border for a large part of NSW. Hopefully it will become clearer by tomorrow and point to something decent in central areas. Real...
