Re: Warm and dry weather rolls on: April 17-30?

0.4mm here yesterday, which takes us up to 3.2mm for the month. We're also tracking about 3c above average for our maximum temperature. Quite a few stressed and dying trees out this way, as well as fields with bare dirt patches and cracked ground. The latest EC run for late next week does look good ...

Re: Warm and dry weather rolls on: April 17-30?

75 separate model runs across EC and GFS on the 12Z run are signalling a strong MJO phase into the eastern Indian Ocean at the start of May. If they verify, this will deliver increased moisture into any upper low that cuts off from polar region in the first 2 weeks of May. Show time seems to be get...

Re: Warm and dry weather rolls on: April 17-30?

I actually had a look at BoM data recently on this long term topic at the nearest long term station to here, Malmsbury reservoir dating back to 1872. Here are the driest starts to the year in order. 2019 is currently 14th associated with this BoM data. January to March 1882 - 6mm 1965 - 20mm 1967 -...

Re: Settled with the odd weak front, 4 April - 14

28.3c here today and still 23c. Crazy temperatures for mid-April and about 10c above average. We’re currently sitting on 2.8mm for the month with seemingly little prospect of further rain for the outlook period. It’s really dire in these parts and must be breaking records.

Re: Settled with the odd weak front, 4 April - 14

EC, GFS and Icon 00z run producing a big upper low that spawns a cyclonic surface cut off low around Vic, late Easter. Warm moisture advection water bomb on the back end. Large Autumn break if they hold and verify :) EC has liked this scenario a few times now. Would be great if it happens. Latest E...

Re: Settled with the odd weak front, 4 April - ?

2.8mm overnight here and currently 11c. Still in need of a proper rain event - it has been about 4 months now! But good to still get something in the gauge and into the water tanks. Looks like the east and south east suburbs are doing well, and more on the way judging by the radar.

So horrible to see. Especially in an area that normally gets good rainfall.

Re: Strong front/cold outbreak: March 29-April 2

Yes, areas around here and other parts of the central highlands I have visited are looking rather dire. It has been a severe start to the year, way below average, with the combination of drought, high temperatures, and occasional hot winds, all of which sapped moisture away early in the year and has...

Re: Strong front/cold outbreak: March 29-April 2

Btw anyone else had problems with wunderground? My login went missing with their system upgrade and I can’t connect a new account to my new login. Just wondering it it’s only me:?: I doubt it's just you. I have been having various problems too. I was on another forum where a lot of users have been ...

Re: Strong front/cold outbreak: March 29-April 2

Dry here as well. There was a line of showers back near Ballarat, which unfortunately disintegrated. Not feeling very hopeful, as I think we will struggle to get much of anything this weekend. East central parts will probably still do ok though. The temp has dropped quite a bit. We reached a high of...

Re: Humid with showers and storms, followed by strong front: March 22-26

16c here today and 0.2mm in those showers around lunchtime. A few trees and branches down in the area this morning after last night’s winds. Good to see some decent falls in a few of the driest spots, but it has clearly been patchy. Our MTD is only 16mm and YTD is 57mm. Really hope we’re starting to...

Sure was a wild evening. Very strong wind here, along with some decent lightning and thunder. Only managed 4mm though, but anything is welcome right now.

Re: Humid with showers and storms, followed by strong front: March 22-26

Nasty looking storm in the north east suburbs. A few good falls in the area around here, but pretty much missed us. Still managed 1.3mm and some good rumbles.

Re: Another long warm spell, with possible showers. March 15-25

More mist and drizzle this morning, which left 1.1mm in the gauge and gives a total of 3.3mm for the last couple of days. Doesn’t do a lot but at least puts a brief pause on things drying out further. Good to see a slight upgrade in EC, though would expect some changes as we get closer. We all need ...

Re: Another long warm spell, with possible showers. March 15-25

21.8c max today. Fog and light drizzle here at the moment. We’ve had thick fog here for the last 3 mornings - there’s definitely plenty of moisture in the air. Shame it can’t come together for a rain event. EC looks to have downgraded quite a lot for this area for the next week, but still hopeful th...

Re: Another long warm spell, with possible showers. March 15-25

Yes, nothing much in the way of weather. Sunny, slight breeze here, and 27c. Low of 11.c last night. Could smell smoke this morning, but not now. It's still hazy though. So far this year, we've only had 49mm and just 13 days with any precipitation. Only 7.6mm this month, and currently tracking at 2c...

Down to 6.9c here this morning and a top of 16.5c. Definitely autumn-like, though a stretch of very warm temperatures are forecast for the week ahead. Shame the dry goes on. Surely a proper rainy day will come sometime soon?

Didn't last very long, but scored 1.3mm. Looked heavier on the radar than it actually was, but certainly better than nothing. Temperature has dropped to 16c.

Re: March 9-15: Troughs and a couple of fronts but will it rain?

Yes there’s a bit more on the radar than I was expecting too. A bit of spitting rain here at the moment. Wind from the west has picked up as well.
