Re: Climate Driver Discussion 2019 (Enso, IOD, PDO , SAM)
It's nice to see the +ve IOD finally dissipating. Water is boiling between Darwin and Timor at present, so something's got to give soon....

Re: VIC - Cooler with showers in the south: December 10-15 2019
Having broken the record for the coldest December maximum, it will be remarkable if we break the heat record in the same December :o ! (Hope we don't - cold records I quite enjoy, heat records not so much!) Weird stuff happens with a +ve IOD and -ve AAO. Wed-Fri next week is likely to be three 40c+...

Re: Near Stationary, sharpening LWT 26 Nov - 2 Dec
Who remembers the November of 2017? I loved it! Warm moist Tropical Warmth for days on end with bubbling clouds. Who would have thought it's the exact same city this year :P Oh do I ever. Especially the grand finale supercell onslaught at the end of that month. Among the nastiest weather I can ever...

Half of Bendigo is out of power now. Mostly tree branches to blame. Sky is getting a darker shade of brown. Winds gusting to 50 kts. All a bit apocalyptic now.

Ended up hitting 41.9c. So hottest November temp ever.
Change is just to our West. Winds are gusting to 80 km/h. Humidity 6%. Sky is brown.
Bad fire near Rochester now.

0.1c off the November record for the current AWS site (40.2c vs 40.3c). Howling Northerly gusting to 40 kts. Filthy.
There is a 1862-1957 Nov record of 41.4c. That might even be at risk.

Yeah, not good in SA. They've deliberately turned off the power grid around Port Lincoln today as well... Gusting now to 85 km/h there. Nullabor up to 45.8c. Nov record for SA is 47.9 at Tarcoola on 30th Nov 1993.

Re: Victoria - Hot blast ahead of a milder change - 18th Nov to 21 Nov 2019
The two stand-out heatwaves for us in November are 1997 (40.3c), and 2009 (a string of mid to high-30c days for much of that month).
OCF ensemble is suggesting 39.6c on Thursday, so it'll be a short-lived but punchy blast of heat. It's the gale force winds that worry me....
