Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Classic mid-winter's day. Hasn't got above 10c and we currently have a mix of rain and small hail...

Love it!

And temp dropped to 6c and 5mm so far today since 9am.

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Looks like an upgrade on 00z GFS. It's going to be real winter weather to end the week.

Some savage frosts next week too by the looks of it.

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

Another severe frost and temp of -2 degC this morning. I've counted 20 frosts so far this winter which is very impressive before July 1. This tends to happen with a +ve AAO. GFS 00Z has upgraded nicely for the upcoming system. Friday looks downright cold. And probably more savage frosts next week to...

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

0 degC and a frost here this morning. Back to winter!

While it's been a lean June for our ski resorts, Chile in South America has been having huge snowfalls. Tends to happen with MJO stalled in phase 1&2.

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

A sneaky 3mm this afternoon with the rainband from the Southwest. 11mm since Friday.

The Indian Ocean Dipole has swung to +ve this month, and the AAO likewise is unfavorable for us. The BOM have a new ENSO update tomorrow which should be interesting...

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

Mostly sunny day today. All rather boring.

And yet at Swan Hill it's been cold and wet this afternoon. Go figure!

That said, we might get some dregs from the cloudband moving up from the SW this evening.

We're stuck in no-man's land in the centre of the Low atm. 4mm overnight so 8mm for the event.

All fairly ho-hum here. Just 4mm last night and mostly sunny skies today.

A chilly 5c now and no wind either.

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

Latest EC and GFS are looking very good. Not an overly cold system, but cold enough. Should be a big rain producer, though details will depend a lot on the exact track. Yeah, looks like about 20mm for here - that should get the creeks running again nicely. But given that it's winter solstice, even ...

Random fact - we've now officially had more rainfall since January 1 than we had in all of 2019.

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

Looks more like a classic cold outbreak this weekend and into next week with a cutoff low and then follow up cold fronts.

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

Another 3mm of drizzle overnight. 10mm for the event. It's gone warm and humid now with the Westerly coming off the warm waters of the Bight. The coming weekend looks interesting with potential for 15-30 mm at this stage, although the High ridging underneath the cutoff Low will probably see sub-trop...

Re: Week of big highs with frost and fog: June 6-14

7mm here. Quite happy with that.

And a possibility of a decent cutoff low and upper cold pool this time next week. GFS is enthusiastic about it, and places like Geelong and Ballarat could get very wet.

Re: Week of big highs with frost and fog: June 6-14

A frosty 0 degC this morning and now high cloud. Yesterday was a surprisingly warm 16c. Perhaps 10mm for us over the weekend which will be welcome. But it looks like a heatwave (relatively speaking) moving into late-June :x I think that when it breaks down we might get some decent rainfall in July.

Re: Week of big highs with frost and fog: June 6-14

This month is starting to look a bit like June 2017. Although perhaps with colder temps. Hopefully the AAO returns back to normal or -ve in July, because the rest of this month looks very dull.

-3 degC at our place this morning. A savage frost outside.
