Re: Climate Driver Discussion 2019 (Enso, IOD, PDO , SAM)

IOD is currently at 2.15! GFS is saying SAM will drop to -2/-3 by months end. Not good fire weather IMHO.

Re: Climate Driver Discussion 2019 (Enso, IOD, PDO , SAM)

The IOD is at record levels, but models are suggesting it will fall sharply to be neutral by the New Year. Nino 3.4 is swinging like a barn door at the moment and I think we dodged a bullet re the SSW. The Polar Vortex and its tropospheric linkage stayed over toward southern South America, so we hav...

Re: Climate Driver Discussion 2019 (Enso, IOD, PDO , SAM)

Latest ENSO wrap-up from BOM released today indicates positive IOD going from strength to strength: “The Indian Ocean Dipole (IOD) remains positive, with the latest weekly index value to 29 September at +1.76 °C. This is the highest weekly value observed in the Bureau's dataset which extends from 2...

Re: Climate Driver Discussion 2019 (Enso, IOD, PDO , SAM)

All defined stratospheric pressure levels are seeing new temperature minimums set over the Tropics, this is the 30mb level. The other SH SSW years have not had this kind of response over the tropics. Interesting times ahead. Hi Flyfisher, as noted in previous posts on the previous page, there has t...

Noticing, things still damp,
Puddles of water still visible from the weekend,
Sure this won't last much longer.

2.8mm more than I was expecting here. Bonus! We had a peak of 19.9C at 0200. Now 11C with northerly breeze.

Re: Climate Driver Discussion 2019 (Enso, IOD, PDO , SAM)

According to GFS, there will be coupling between the Stratosphere and Troposphere in around 16 days (384hrs) from now - between Africa and Australia:

https://www.stratobserve.com/prs_gphws_maps

The vortices at 10 and 150hpa are almost perfectly aligned.

VIC - Strong front and trough - Sept 19-22 2019

I don't think I have started a topic before, but here goes... This front / trough is going to give us a lot of wind as well as some rain. I notice the BoM have a warning out for SA re wind and raised dust. Already we have wind to 42klm/hr here in Wallan.

Re: New station with option for public access to live data

Hi Jeremy, I run (as per the PWS link in my signature) a Vantage Pro 2 into a standard Meteobridge linked to Weather Underground. I don't have UV or soil monitoring, but I find it on the whole pretty reliable. Sometimes the Wunderground site doesn't update data for an hr or 2 or occasionally the Met...

Its looking like no coupling between 10 and 150 hpa in our region for a while, according to GFS on the link you posted earlier JS.

The coupling of the event will be sporadic. Which means fast unusual windy heat and cold events, just like NSW and Canberra saw today ;)
Ok. Makes sense. many thx again :D
