Re: VIC- Return of summery weather: Dec 8-10 2019

Wil this SAM related pattern eventually break down? It seems to have a tight hold over us thats for sure. Yes it will eventually over Summer. Here is a link to monitor it: https://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/precip/CWlink/daily_ao_index/aao/aao_index.html On a positive note the +ve IOD is starti...

Re: VIC- Return of summery weather: Dec 8-10 2019

We sure are dodging bullets at the moment... the country is hot everywhere except southern vic and tas. Is this SAM related? Sure is! From the Warming event over Antarctica back in August / September. The Westerlies are fanning hot air over NSW / Southern QLD - hence the fires and smoke in the Tasm...

1.2mm overnight to open the December account. Currently 7c here. Looking at the animated Satpic, the effect of the LWT is clearly visible!

Calm here now and bright and sunny. So much for the bleak cold that was in the forecast just a couple of days ago.
Watch the satpic animation. That front is really moving, coming up from the SW. Fun weather tomorrow!

On the 2300z Melb Airport sounding, the storm potential is there, if we get more moisture through middle levels

Re: Near Stationary, sharpening LWT 26 Nov - 2 Dec

Who remembers the November of 2017? I loved it! Warm moist Tropical Warmth for days on end with bubbling clouds. Who would have thought it's the exact same city this year :P Thats when the "Mallee Monster"came down from around Ouyen down to Melbourne smashing everything in its path'. I still have s...

Next event only a couple of days out and looks like being a long lived LWT with a series of strong front. Good for southern and mountain areas of Vic, but bad fire weather further north, new thread time :?:
Done :D

VIC - Near Stationary, sharpening LWT 26 Nov - 2 Dec

A near stationary Long Wave Trough over SE Aust will sharpen later in the week driving a series of fronts over Vic / Tas. While keeping things relatively cool down south, our northerly neighbours may not fair as well. -ve SAM from the September SSW event rolls on

Wednesday next week is looking very hot, in contrast.850Ts around 26C over Victoria. Would tend to suggest around 44C in the Mallee and low 40s to high 30s further south.
With strong Northerly winds - expect TFBs IMHO!

We can thank the SSW event back in August / September for pushing back the fire season in parts of SA and all of Vic / Tas. The same event that is scorching NSW though :o
