The sky over Tulla is looking unstable this morning
Yep, at Warragul too. Been watching it develop all day. Some unusual bird calls this morning, not even sure what bird it was but the Currawongs were replying. Hoping for a bit of storm action tomorrow.

Looks like it's lining us up for another battering. I probably should have left the driveway in the backyard for a couple more days. Ha! :?

Re: Vic - Humid & Potential for Rain: Feb 5-20, 2020

Few gauges showing falls in the 90s mm. Looks to have peaked just south of the Princess Highway. Just checked my numbers and our peak rainfall rate was 250mm/hr so ever minute at the peak was dropping 4mm. Adds up quick when it is that heavy. quote] :o : :o :o 47mm here up to 9am and probably got a...

Re: Vic - Humid & Potential for Rain: Feb 5-20, 2020

Band B looks like it is going to catch up with Band A :). Only 4mm here from Band A but spectacular shelf cloud incoming, so perhaps a bit more from Band B. Lightning tracker showing plenty of action in that second band too. https://www.lightningmaps.org/?lang=en#m=sts;t=4;s=0;o=0;b=0.00;ts=0;y=-38...

Re: Vic - Humid & Potential for Rain: Feb 5-20, 2020

Plenty of flooding out on the roads around Warragul and we saw at least one business premises flooded out. Quite a few huge branches down around the place too. Half of my gravel driveway is now all over the pavers in the back yard. Looks like two rivers ran down there. Can't get to the gauge outside...

Re: Vic - Humid & Potential for Rain: Feb 5-20, 2020

Backyard is flooded and we're on the side of a hill!!! Rain is also coming inside through the exhaust fan in the kitchen. Holy cr@p! It sure looked epic on radar. Epic indeed! We've had some pretty wild storms in the 8 years I've been here but nothing like this before. Thunder is still rumbling and...

Definitely feeling like Brisbourne atm.
The sky is looking decidedly stormy here but doubtful that we'll see any action today. Looking forward to Friday with fingers crossed :D

Brilliant storm over Warragul right now. Best I've seen for a long while. Cooled off considerably with the rain, which is surprisingly cold and large drops.

Re: Vic - Humid & Potential for Rain: Feb 5-12, 2020

When I got home yesterday, there were Currawongs wolf whistling. That usually is a sign of a significant weather change. Also, these birds hang only around here in the cooler months! I haven't heard them for months either. Very interesting. Yep, we had Currawongs here yesterday too for the first ti...

Re: VIC - Warming trend with dangerous fire WX - 27 - 31 Jan 2020

You really have to back the models in the situations, as they rarely all miss a few hours out. They expect it to really fire up the next two hours. Melbourne set a new dewpoint record this morning with 25.1C the best I saw. That’s a degree higher than the previous record sent back in 2011 :o Really...

Did a bit of digging. The Melbourne site changed to a Stevenson screen on January 1, 2008 (the day the bureau was formed). For the January heatwave Mildura is understood to be the only Victorian inland station with a Stevenson screen. I'm sure you meant 1908, but not according to this picture at Vi...

Could it be the wind change dispersing the smoke and ash more widely so it's not affecting the radar as much now?

Still waiting for the change to hit Warragul. It's very close now but oh so far when it's this hot!

The first low that's supposed to throw the second one up later in the week is already barreling across the southern tip of WA. Looks wicked on the sat pic. I have a good feeling about this one :)

The sky has been partly overcast and decidedly unstable looking all morning here. Getting hot and uncomfortable now but still some signs that we may get a little watery surprise at some point this afternoon. Fingers crossed :)
