Re: Victoria - Troughs and possible low - September 1-7 2019

There's video of the tornado on the ABC Goulburn Valley page at https://www.facebook.com/ABCGoulburnMurray/photos/a.110281062340465/2434457413256140/?type=3&theater That must have been one unstable air mass. Have a look at the shape of that hail in one of the pictures. It's like a snowflake on ster...

Re: VIC - Strong front and Tasman Sea low: August 28-30 2019

90.8mm for me this month. Above average, mainly thanks to the 60mm or so we had in the second week of the month. What a stunning day today. Chilly start at 1.2 degrees with a slight frost.

Re: Strong front and Tasman Sea low: August 28-30

New 3 monthly prediction is out, and interesting to note that it looks like more of the same, following on from Hillybilly's map above. Most of Australia is predicted to have a warmer and drier spring, but Tasmania and far south Victoria looks to be just on average. -0.2 this morning with clear skie...

Re: Strong front and Tasman Sea low: August 28-30

5mm so far from this lot, almost 90mm for the month. I got back from Cohuna/Echuca yesterday. Was expecting a dust bowl out that way the way it is portrayed by the media, however it is very much as green as can get. Good to see Probably because you weren't in the area the media has actually been fo...

Re: Strong front and Tasman Sea low: August 28-30

My weather station has been keen on a -1 degree morning for Friday for about 3 days now, which usually translates to about -2.

I see bom now have 3 degrees for the city. I expect a forecast of 2 or 1 in tomorrow night's update.

Re: Vic - Antarctic cold wave 7 - 12 Aug 2019

I would have thought it'd be 5 or 6 degrees already for it to drop to 2 or 3 degrees by morning to have any chance of snow at sea level by tomorrow morning.

Either the airmass moving in will be remarkably cold to drop the temp another 5 degrees from it's current 8, or this thing is a fail.

Re: Vic - Antarctic cold wave 7 - 12 Aug 2019

GFS 0Z has come in and is in line with EC. Big sub 528 cold pool, which would map onto a large area with snow below 400m. Core looks to be about 525 to 526, so potential for near sea level. Plenty of moisture. Has scraped up to 5C at home. Should see the next cold pool showing up on the Tas radar s...

Re: Vic - Antarctic cold wave 7 - 12 Aug 2019

August 10, 2005 was that event. I remember it so clearly because I was "annoyed" that the conditions were there for it to snow in the CBD and it never happened. Here is an article from the age from the day after: https://www.theage.com.au/national/snow-misses-cbd-lunch-appointment-20050811-ge0o2q.ht...

Re: Vic - Antarctic cold wave 7 - 12 Aug 2019

Snow to near sea level??? Yay :D Too bad I'm going to mount buller tomorrow then. Been waiting since 2005 for an event like this :x What time is the coldest air due to arrive??? Hopefully it speeds up and comes through this evening. Btw, my maximum temperature yesterday was 6.4 thanks to the constan...

Re: Vic - Antarctic cold wave 7 - 12 Aug 2019

The biggest feature down here is the temperature, having not gone above 6.4 today (after 9am). But i agree with it not being anything unusual. The forecast for the next 2 days suggests just typical showery weather, with dry periods in between. Certainly nothing like the low level snow initially fore...

Re: Vic - Antarctic cold wave 7 - 12 Aug 2019

Some more heavier showers in the last hour or so, pushing the temp down further, but i see in general over the metro area this is happening. Is the coldest air yet to push through?

Re: Vic - Antarctic cold wave 7 - 12 Aug 2019

My maximum after 9am is only 6.1 degrees. The constant low cloud, showers and minuscule ice particles are keeping the temp at 5.4 at the moment. With the right setup, this could be the coldest day for some time here. We had an 8.3 with the fog last month, so today could be cooler. 13mm since midnigh...

Constant medium rain here since 5am, with the last 2 or 3 minutes having very small pieces of ice in it.

Car gauge said 6 degrees on the way to the shops half hour ago
