Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Looked like it was gonna rain all day here, but only spotty most the time. Some heavier stuff just to our east, so might do ok. Been in and out of fog with a max of 9C. Classic slow moving heavy bands rotating around the upper low, making for real hit and miss totals. Whole system is weakening as t...

Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Very interesting tempa around the state today. Mildura and swan hill making it to 7.6 amd 7.0 respectively, whilst Walpeup only got to 6.6.

Currently 13.0 in the city and northern suburbs, but 7s and 8s down here already

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

7-day synoptics looking far more dynamic than what we've seen so far this winter. Expect more activity if this is, indeed, a breakdown in the current pattern given the relatively warm waters I've been saying it all along... June is a boring month :) All the main winter action is late july to late S...

Re: Week of big highs with frost and fog: June 6-14

3 frosty mornings in a row and a 4th likely tomorrow morning.

June is my most hated month. It is nearly always boring. I wouldn't expect anything until mid July

Surprising to see the thermometer bottomed out at 0.2 this morning. I was convinced the cloud cover would stick around. Sunny day with high cloud moving in late

Re: Deep low followed by troughs / fronts May 30 / 31

Somebody should seriously look at amending the dumb 9am to 9am rule for observations. It makes me nervous when following records :D :D :D

That 11.2 max for yesterday was just equalled at 9am hahaha

Re: Deep low followed by troughs / fronts May 30 / 31

For me, talking from past years, June and the first half of July are the most boring with high pressure and mainly calm weather. Mid to late July things ramp up, and the strongest cold fronts are usually August and September

At this stage Rockhampton is having a maximum of 12.1 for today, which is the coldest maximum fit any month, ever. That 9am temp will be crucial tomorrow.
Rockhampton 12.1C at 9am this morning!

Remarkable

As at 11pm, it was 10 degrees there, compared to 12 in Melbourne!!!

Mackay had a maximum of 13.1 as well.

Re: Strong front and cutoff low: May 20-25

Erosion is one thing that baffles me. Doesn't basic physics tell us that water will naturally erode the edges of beaches regardless. Also weren't the areas around inverloch covered in water once upon a time, many metres above the current ground level? Probably a discussion for another thread, but ju...

Re: Series of cold fronts 23-30 April

After this next system, it appears to go into high pressure dominance. Bit of a shame given the moisture availability to the NW and the current wet catchments ability to translate into healthy recovery for dam levels. Typical late autumn. Probably make way for nice days like today but cool to cold ...
