Re: Cut-off Low transiting SE Aus 10-13 July

Quite fascinating watching this one unfold in real time. It's a long time since I've seen the models struggle so much with the detail. It must be a bit like forecasting in the olden days right now - watch the sky and see what happens :). (Only a mm or so to report from here so far, but it does 'feel...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Dribbled our way to 18.5mm in total for the dates; not bad in the end. Now looking forward to a bit of sun before the mystery system!

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Thick drizzle and fog all night. Nearing 20mm more in the gauge, and about 40mm for the event. Could well continue like this for another 24 to 36 hours. It might clear briefly then redevelop. Some much heavier falls around the middle part of the Dandenongs. Few spots showing between 50 and 70mm for...

Re: 1-7 July - a week of fronts

Latest forecasts suggesting snow to 900 metres on Thursday and Friday, so getting quite cold compared to recent events.

1-7 July - a week of fronts

Looking like a prolonged sequence of cold fronts to start July.

No single big one at this stage, but certainly a break from high pressure and stability.

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

5mm here overnight, making 20.5mm for the system and 55mm mtd. Well short of our June average of 81mm so we're unlikely to get there, but still a long way ahead of ytd average.

Great to see those SE Tas totals!

Re: Winter Solstice being marked with a BANG

6mm here so far from that more or less stationary blob just east of Ballarat, to add to 9mm over the previous two days = 15mm for the event.

Temp stuck between 6-7C.

Random fact - we've now officially had more rainfall since January 1 than we had in all of 2019.
Good to hear. Hoping we all (including Derwent!) get a decent go out of the Friday-Sunday system in the next thread - the BOM 4-day chart is starting to look impressive.

Re: Week of big highs with frost and fog: June 6-14

Just 1 more mm here in dreary drizzle, so a mere 10mm for the last three days; too much rain-shadowing for us. Certainly mild compared to the last couple of weeks with overnight minimums in high single figures. Meanwhile, Mt William has clocked up a sneaky 90mm - great to see as the Grampians were r...

Re: Week of big highs with frost and fog: June 6-14

Thanks HB, good to have a date-relevant thread - even if it's not exciting weather. Actually looking forward to a break from the wind and rain.

Surprising agreement from GFS, EC and ACCESS for that decent-looking system a week away, though too far out to get fixated on just yet :).

Re: Deep low followed by troughs / fronts May 30 / 31

1.5mm overnight and 21mm for the dates - good start to June, also puts us a whisker shy of 400mm ytd.

Can't compete with the Dandenongs but that's pretty good by our humble standards :). (At least some sun and less wind sounds pretty good for a bit too.)

Miserable alright, glad our sheep have a shed to retreat to! It's been like twilight all day.

Another 6.5mm since 9am, so 17mm since it started last night. EC might be right after all!

Re: Deep low followed by troughs / fronts May 30 / 31

A few blobs of wet snow starting to appear in the rain here... That's exciting Gordon. Hopefully with a bit of luck you'll get a proper snow fall at some point today. Hard to say Snowfall. We may have an impressively low max, having not gone above 4C since 9 am, but haven't dipped below 3C either. ...

10.5mm to 9am, so a good start to June. Nasty day out with horizontal drizzle and just 4C.

So far, the wind is blowing hard but nothing like as bad as Saturday night - hoping it stays that way!

2.5mm here today to add to 1mm overnight.

EC this evening jumped up again for us to 25mm tomorrow! Quite a change from 5mm two days ago... A real model rollercoaster this one. Looks bitterly cold too. 6C now and falling.

EC has suddenly decided to gives us 30mm for Monday :o .

Probably an aberration, but surprising on 24 hours out! (Possibly getting very cold too.) It'll be interesting to see how the models look tomorrow morning.

Not that I'm a huge fan of BOM's rainfall outlooks, but here is today's upbeat issue (for what it's worth): http://www.bom.gov.au/climate/outlooks/#/rainfall/summary Back on (more immediate) topic, and this system is still looking good, particularly on the latest BOM 4 day charts, and especially for...

At this stage Rockhampton is having a maximum of 12.1 for today, which is the coldest maximum fit any month, ever. That 9am temp will be crucial tomorrow.
Rockhampton 12.1C at 9am this morning!
