Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Very healthy 33mm in the gauge here, 36mm for the event. You must have passed 100mm mtd HB? Pretty good going for just past halfway :). Yep, about 105mm. Will add up tonight to confirm. Our average is about 120mm for September, so not far off that. I've not seen weather like this for years. We are ...

Re: Vic - Trough and Rainband: Sept 16-17 2019

Hoped we'd get two mild days in a row but not to be - forecast top of 17C; only made it to 14C. Cool, windy day with a few showers, culminating in some thundery rain later.

Top of 8C forecast tomorrow with a minimum of -1C! Spring just can't quite get here, not for more than a day at least.

Re: Victoria - Troughs and possible low - September 1-7 2019

Another 8mm for us, so 25mm for the dates (extended to 9/9?) Horrible couple of days here to be honest, relentless wind that must have come close to warning thresholds yesterday evening (blew over our steel soccer goal for the first time ever), and 2-4C last several hours (3C now). Absolutely bitter...

Yes same here, just a few mm so far - but happy to see the easterners getting their share, given we've had over half a metre of rain since May :).

Re: Climate Driver Discussion 2019 (Enso, IOD, PDO , SAM)

This article just out on the ABC site https://www.abc.net.au/news/2019-09-06/rare-weather-event-over-antarctica-drives-hot-outlook/11481498 says the current Sudden Stratospheric Warming event is almost unprecedented (only one other to rival it recorded in 2002) but no mention of cold/ low level snow...

Re: VIC - Strong front and Tasman Sea low: August 28-30 2019

Just back from several days in NSW to find 6.5m from Wednesday/Thursday. Looks like that'll round out our August at 103mm - 13mm more than average. Meanwhile, our August temps are 0.5C below average for minimums, and 1.2C below for maximums, so the cold hasn't just been my imagination :)! For winter...

Re: SNOW FALLS in NSW...Past and present

New reading yesterday of 228.8cm at Spencers Creek; more than last year's peak - and later.

Deep Creek down a tad at 94.6cm, although unfortunately this reading was taken on 28/8, so it would have missed the Wednesday/ Thursday snowfall top-up which Spencers Ck got.

4mm here overnight and another bleak day yesterday - cold & windy, with cloud after midday.

Was in Melbourne today where it was delightful (by Gordon standards!)

Re: SNOW FALLS in NSW...Past and present

This week's reading is in for Spencers Creek: 222.4cm - a 20cm gain and an almost identical reading to the same day last year!

Deep Creek is slightly down at 103.2cm. No update yet for Three Mile Dam.

Another 4.5mm here with the relentless south-westerly gales - looking forward to a break from these!

Now 2.2mm over our August average with 92.5mm mtd. Well ahead of ytd average.

Re: Vic - Strong Cold Front August 18 - 19

Unpleasant weather continuing here without a break - 7C, full cloud, drizzly showers and very strong wind. Another 3mm in the gauge; 2.3mm to go to the August average. Very wet around here and each time we get significant rain now we get flooding, so hoping to avoid it for a bit, but it would be goo...

Re: Vic - Strong Cold Front August 18 - 19

Interesting and surprising chart HB; without having paid close attention, I'd assumed western Tasmania was doing very well. Is that chart comparing mean to 19 August, or mean for all of August? (I assume the latter as we're only 5mm short of August average already?) Meanwhile, another bleak day here...

Well sounds like I was one of the lucky few, but that's all hahaha, surely some other people must have gotten some white stuff out of this?

Where is it mainly hitting?

Thanks JS. Btw I just edited the second newspaper page to make the Minister's quote easier to find. If a minister, supposedly with access to the best advice, 'knows' it's going to be very dry, what hope does the average person have?

Re: Vic - Strong Cold Front August 18 - 19

Think the Otways may have got some half decent snow judging by the radar after the cold air came through last night, but we don't get many reports from down there so can't confirm.

Edit: A shower here at 11am is dropping sleety snow; 3.5C.
