Re: Warm and dry weather rolls on: April 17-30?

3mm to 9am here plus 1mm since (every bit counts!)

Very wintery (top of 8C so far) with the wind verging on damaging with some cells.

I don't know why I torture myself like this, but ACCESS-G now broadly agrees with EC re a cut-off low over Vic late next week:
And completely gone on 18Z run. I have very little confidence at present.
ACCESS-G looking even better on the latest run?? http://www.weatherzone.com.au/models/

Re: Warm and dry weather rolls on: April 17-30?

On the topic of tomorrow's rain and HB's analysis (which makes sense to me) BOM Twitter have today posted this as an example of MetEye in action: http://flystream.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/04/MetEye-23-April.jpg I struggle with MetEye's rainfall forecasts and this is a classic example. It's saying...

Wow, interesting for context JS; thanks. My 'records' are quite puny by comparison.

Re: Warm and dry weather rolls on: April 17-30?

We've been lucky enough to have had a good run here since 2010, including last year (thank goodness!). However I've never seen a flash drought like the one that's hit us this year - that's only 22 years of records admittedly, but still, it is just incredible how fast and hard it's happened. Basicall...

Re: Warm and dry weather rolls on: April 17-30?

Just back from NE Vic - totally different picture from about Myrtleford north & east. Healthy stream flows and thick green grass; legacy of a 5 inch autumn break in late March and a few showers since. My farmer mates up there are delighted. Some follow up soon would be handy though. Bone dry back ho...

Re: Settled with the odd weak front, 4 April - ?

Good to see east central getting decent falls lately.

7.5mm here so not a complete failure. We're yet to get a double digit 24hr total this year though!

Settled with the odd weak front, 4 April - 14

A lovely spell of autumn weather here - if only we'd had a few inches of rain prior so we could properly enjoy it! (At least eastern Vic and the high country mostly finished March with a bang.) Meanwhile, looks like weak fronts clipping past Friday night/Saturday, and again Monday, but no real rain ...

An even 1mm here to get April off the mark.

And I'll start a new thread - if only to make the date range relevant :).

Re: Strong front/cold outbreak: March 29-April 2

We're on 49mm ytd which is comfortably our driest Jan-March since I started keeping records here in 1997.

Btw nice outlook Mick. Look forward to hearing more about your new home & getting the odd report.

Re: Strong front/cold outbreak: March 29-April 2

Finally something here - just hit 7mm. Macedonian, you must have picked up something worthwhile overnight if the radar totals are anything to go by?

Impressive snowfalls for March, with a good cover lying for 24hrs plus at many alpine locations, even down to modest elevations.

Re: Humid with showers and storms, followed by strong front: March 22-26

Current STW (border to Ballarat) has a heavy rainfall warning, as well as warnings for hail and wind.

Would have thought the storms are too fast moving for rainfall to accumulate to warning thresholds?

Latest BOM 4 dayer looks good, with an apparent north-west link to Cyclone Veronica with our front on Sunday.

However the latest BOM forecast locally is underwhelming for rainfall totals :? .

Re: Another long warm spell, with possible showers. March 15-25

2.5mm in our gauge this morning - similarly unusual for us to measure so much from drizzle/ fog. After HB's reference to tree drip, I notice our pond has about an inch more water than a few days ago, so this really could be doing some good in the forests nearby. Hoping all this moisture can be put t...

Re: Another long warm spell, with possible showers. March 15-25

Thanks for the continuing updates HB... maybe the rest of us are too scared to post for fear of mozzing it! Very humid here with foggy starts yesterday, and still thick fog/ light drizzle at 16C today. High DPs, just need a trigger. Edit: Latest Weatherzone synopotic charts look promising, but too m...

Re: March 9-15: Troughs and a couple of fronts but will it rain?

3mm of rain here that wasn't in the forecast at all. Long time since we had a pleasant surprise like that! (Usually it's been the opposite...) Locally some 4-5mm falls too.

Re: Lingering trough then strong front: March 4-8

An underwhelming but expected 1.5mm here; down to 7C earlier and up to 9C now, so that's it, I'm lighting the fire! Re drought comparisons; I'm with JS in that locally, it's not even close to as bad a number of other dry events - and I'm only going on my own experience here back to 1996. We've been ...
