Re: Warm and dry weather rolls on: April 17-30?

Looks like Otways rainshadow from here onwards unless the stream turns more southerly. Green drought.

Re: Settled with the odd weak front, 4 April - ?

I think our season ahead hinges on the following: 1. Indian ocean NW of Australia needs to warm up to provide middle and upper moisture - it's high time it switched to warm. 2. Central Pacific needs to cool to allow low level pacific moisture to enter Australia to support rain coming in from the NW....

Re: Settled with the odd weak front, 4 April - ?

10mm here, happy with that and keeps it ticking over. Slow recovery signs in the bush but some ferns look very dead still. Everywhere needs a big drink. If this winter is dry, expect to see dams at very low levels. Hume and Eildon are already quite low.

Re: Strong front/cold outbreak: March 29-April 2

Up to 15mm here - best rain since December last year. Really good, it's our Autumn break. Everything is very wet, creeks are up and roads have some minor flash flooding. SW flow is so good for this area.

Slightly too southerly for my liking here - but still have got 8mm. Best of the showers going through Scoresby at the moment. We so need this to continue around here.

Re: Strong front/cold outbreak: March 29-April 2

Moisture starved front will explode once it interacts with the QLD moisture over NE Victoria - already small storms popping up around there. Afraid for us the moisture looks like not getting here with this first front. Rain shadow looks likely too.

We finally got some rain. Thought it was going to miss to our south but we got a good downpour. That was so needed here. Hope we can get some more. Got 8mm.

Got zero - died on the doorstep. Just heard a drought stressed tree come crashing down nearby - horrid sound.

I just want rain - anything. The wet bush here is dying. Looks like missing here again.

Re: Lingering trough then strong front: March 4-8

The first big injection of moisture in WA in a long time - it's a very good sign. Unfortunately it won't link up to any front for us but at least we are seeing moisture upstream air flow for once. Here is hoping for some big NW cloud bands to bring steady rain over the rest of Autumn. Too heavy woul...

I am as excited about the 9mm I got as I would if we got 100mm in a normal year. Please keep raining.

Re: Return of heat: Feb 24 to March 5

Another session of garden watering - I am even bucketing the bath water from the kids bath onto the gardens.

The cold patch of water off WA has shrunk and is now surrounded by warm water on all sides - this is a good sign. Keep going you good thing into Autumn and winter!

Re: Return of heat: Feb 24 to March 5

Yes, its quite bad. Repeat of last summer. The monsoon in the NW just has not fired probably due to the cooler Indian ocean. In the Pacific the setup looks like a modoki El Nino (Warm water concentrated in the west central Pacific) Looking for positive signs, there is strong warming around Sumatra i...

Re: Cooler with a couple of stronger fronts: Feb 9-14

On a side note - be careful around the gum trees at the moment. The change from hot to cool is seeing limbs fall off even when there is no wind. We had one fall on our chook shed and completely destroy it. (Chickens survived) I had another almost fall on me today at work - about 2 metres from where ...

Still mostly missed here up to 5mm - storms went north along the Ferny creek ridge line, they seem to like that spot 8-)

Still better than nothing and a good light show for sure.

3mm here, lots of rumbles with one purple close CG. Out watering the garden in the spitting rain as I do most nights and trying not to get bitten by mosquitoes. Wet bush here needs a drink but alas not this time.

Re: VIC - Hot and humid with showers and storms: Last week of January 2019

I think we will stay stuck on the dry side of the cycle as long as that cold water persists in the eastern Indian ocean. Was hoping it would break down over summer but it just won't. Meanwhile the Tasman has gone hot again which will induce cut off lows in Autumn which usually holds the ridge over u...

Re: VIC: How Hot? 6 Jan 2019 - 18 Jan 2019

I am watering my large black woods again to prevent them from dying. The flash drought last summer killed one and it cost me $2K to have safely removed. I think Bendigo has a lot of Ironbark trees which are very drought tolerant.
