I just can't see how Melbourne isn't going to record under 45C tomorrow, at least at the airport - this is one superheated mass of air and there will be a solid 30C pool of stinking hot air over Melbourne tomorrow afternoon, 1C hotter then what gave Adelaide a 45C day today...

No sign of a 50c, despite media hysteria. The gridded data have been showing an area of 50C plus inland for the Nullarbor. It has touched 51C in some runs. Question will come down to whether the heat peaks near stations or not. Guess we will find out in two days :o The trend in extreme heat is very...

Latest 00z run of GFS being particularly bullish with it’s outlook for Friday/Saturday in terms of extreme heat - 850hpa temps of 30C for Melbourne on Friday and then 850hpa temps of 31C for Sydney on Saturday could easily translate into temps of 47C for Melbourne and 48C for the western suburbs of ...

Am I missing something here? I understand why the ABC is latching onto and reporting any record breaking talk in regards to heat because of their AGW obsession but for the BOM to be talking about and I quote: "It is not out of the realms of possibility that we could break our highest ever recor...

The polar vortex has weakened another 20% on the eastern flank near the southern coast of Chile overnight with winds at 70hpa only registering 94kmh!! There is also an emergence of another secondary circulation above the primary, another sign of a weakening vortex. Things are really getting interest...

Latest GFS analysis of the polar jet stream at 70hpa is showing an almighty distortion of the polar vortex turning the circulation into an almost oblong shape and a shift of the centre of the vortex to almost off the coast of Antarctica. You can also see a large bulge of the jetstream towards Chile,...

35c here at 5:30am... incredible and a little concerning. Yes we are tracking 4-5C above what Black Saturday was at the same time of day but as the day goes on it will become obvious this is nothing like Blck saturday conditions in terms of wind and also around 1-2C cooler for an absolute maximum t...

Fell just short of 40c. nice stats everyone.... incredible observation day. I think that 49.5c will be max for the day for the AWS's but .... correct if I'm wrong...there are also the non Auto sites (S.A has about a dozen of them) that report for the 9am max. 50c could still have been passed but I ...

A few thoughts on tomorrow for SA and Friday for Victoria, this is a very hot airmass that the models seem to be struggling to pick up, for instance Ceduna today reached 48.4C with 850hpa temps barely touching 30C, tomorrow the 850hpa temp over Adelaide is firmly in the 30C range so can see it reach...

The one aspect that this Friday will have over February 7th 2009 will be the hot start to the morning, the morning of February 7th was quite benign and mild with it still being 25C at 8am, I can see this Friday being around 28-29C at the same time, lets hope this doesn't mean it will help the maximu...
